This is the place to go for video and DVD rentals in Tacoma. The sheer selection here is amazing--independents, foreign films, etc., along with the basic mainstream Hollywood stuff, they've got it all stowed in their crazy little basement below the Harvester Restaurant. Sometimes the clerks seem a bit film-buff-ish, so you're afraid they're gonna go all Jack Black in High Fidelity on you, but it probably wouldn't happen. As long as you're willing to live with the fact that they're probably rolling their eyes as they turn to go get your copy of 13 Going On 30 (or whatever generic movie), then its worth going here to maybe also check out something that challenges you a bit more...

Borders Books has always had a great selection of books, but they also have a music room. The music room has listening stations, with headphones so you can listen to snatches of tracks and determine if the CD you're considering is right for you or not.
Naturally, the book rooms are bewilderingly varied and filled to brimming with books of every description. Every sort of topic you can imagine can be found there, both upstairs and down.
There is even a separate children's section upstairs, with comfy seating that resembles an amphitheater of steps, covered with a moon-and-stars sort of carpeting.
Although I've never actually used it, they also have a small cafe as well. Magazines and newspapers can be found on shelves in this area. Many people sit and read there while having a light snack.

I have been a member of Blockbusters Video for over 8 years now.
I have found them to be as very good company when it comes to customer relations, they are one of the few that actually like people, which now days is really going the extra mile.
They will even go the extra mile to order old out dated movies and not even charge extra.
Do you have a spoiled pet on a least, I have taken my pets into the blockbuster stores and they have only said oh how cute or look isn't that an mean looking parrot.
(Which it was on both count my sisters pets).
When I got married 5 years ago they quickly and painlessly re-re-did all paper work in my new last name and instated my husband onto the account, most of the other places (PG&E, rental agreement, billing places etc. etc. we had to show proof) So I thought this was a great feature, sometimes I loose my card, and they just issue me another one, I think they have an on line service to, but I have never tried it as they just have a video store right down the street from us.

If you're into video/DVD rentals, Blockbuster on 6th does have a lot. It's a large store with many sections, and plenty of copies of most titles.
However, I'm more into buying used DVDs of movies I'd like to keep, so I always check the "used" section to see what I can find. Unfortunately, by the time I get there, most of the good stuff has been taken and I'm left with multiple-umpty copies of something nobody really wants.
Still, I have found some gems, so it's worth picking through the tables of disks for interesting titles.
The shop is right on two different bus lines, so it may be handy for many people to get to.
