We've been going to the Old House in the Proctor District for years now. Their service is wonderful, though can be a bit slow at times. Pleasant surroundings and food is consistently good.
While food is good, it's not very inspired. Main dishes are great, but side dishes never very. Same 'ole vegetable mix and seasoned potatoes. Would love to see some different offerings here - mashed or scalloped potatoes would be a welcome alternative along with asparagus, creamed spinach or other seasonal vegetable choices.
Do save room for dessert as they are wonderful

The Old House Cafe, located in the same renovated mansion as the Old House Mercantile, is a gracious, elegant place. Paneled walls, a fireplace, muted graceful lighting fixtures, all contribute to the feeling of an Edwardian-era tea parlor. The colors, the textures, all are tasteful and exquisite.
The food is excellent, and there is a wine menu. The dessert selection is varied and tempting.
My uncle, visiting from Chicago, was quite the restaurant connoisseur. In fact, you might say he was a 'restaurant snob.' He asked me to suggest a place where we might eat, and I suggested Old House. Afterwards, he said that I had excellent taste and that the place had exceeded his expectations. High praise from him! :-)

This restaurant is located in -- as the name implies -- an old house in Tacoma's Proctor District. The menu is small but solid. Old House offers several tasty pasta dishes, a couple of fabulous dinner salads, steaks and seafood specials. Clam chowder is great and desserts are a treat -- so be sure to save room.
