The art galery in the museum is a big disappointment. It has too little glass art, something that you would expect to be the forte of a glass museum. Instead they have a bunch of unrelated art (e. g. pictures).
The hot shop is really the only thing worth the trip (but not the $10 fee). They (grundge-like dressed guys) take some time to make a vase, but the place is very interesting (the huge steel dome that you see from outside) and you get a good view of that they are doing.
Also, their gift shop has some unique art, but it is all absurdely proced. You better shop somewhere else if you can resist the spending urge.

It is a 'must see' when you are in the Tacoma area. Don't miss the bridge, where some of his wonderful work is also displayed.

The free outdoor display is the best part of this musuem that is based on Chihuly's works of art. I loved walking on the bridge and thinking that the inside was just going to be amazing. I was disappointed. It was expensive to get inside and I would have been just as happy seeing the exhibits that were free outside. The gift shop has cool touristy things to pick up so it's worth checking that place out. I'd rather spend money on the gift shop than admission to the museum.

This Tacoma musuem has a signature looking building (looks like a hat) that hosts a glass workshop. The galleries are great. But I think the real gem lies in the (free) outdoor plazas with different sculptures and the Chihuly Bridge of Glass linking the museum to Union Station across the highway. Walking in the Chihuly Seaform Pavilion on the bridge gives you a feeling that you are really underwater! The gift shop also has a very nice selection of glass decorations and art books.

The museum was smaller than I expected. The Hot Shop was very cool and I was impressed by the exhibit. Vallien's work was unreal. I have never seen anything like it. The moving sculpture in the back of the room drew me in. I was also relieved to discover the museum wasn't a shrine to Chihuly. It has some of his work on the Glass Bridge but the museum doesn't revolve around his stuff.

While the museum galleries itself leave you asking the question, "Is this it?", watching the artists at work in the Hot Shop is well worth the trip. The outdoor exhibits of the Chihuly Glass on the bridge is awesome. Be sure to visit Union Station across the bridge for more Chihuly glass. For a great lunch, hit the Swiss pub at the top of the steps. Park for free outside of Union Station.
