But my wife and I continue to return to Sushi Maru. Perhaps our tastebuds are just not sensitve enough to detect a difference, but we have yet to find another sushi restaurant that served noticably higher quality stuff.
That makes Suhi Maru an amazing value.
I think that it is also worth noting that Sushi Maru employs real, actual sushi chefs. In addition, the place is almost always packed with Japanese speaking customers - which is generally a good indication.
I am particularly impressed with some of the more imaginative sushi creations they offer at the boat/bar. Some truly amazing, beautiful creations. There is also no lack of variety - from simple cucumber rolls to extravigant sushi nigiri combinations that even a veteran sushi etear would be hard-pressed to identify.
The miso soup also happens to be outstanding.
The only negative can be the slow service - it sometimes takes a bit too long to get that tea refill or to have someone stop and total up the check. Despite these problems, this has been our 'favorite' sushi stop for the last 6 years.

The food is consistently excellent. Everything is fresh and a great value. The sushi boat has a nice variety of choices, and there is often something new. They even custom make sushi by special request. The dinner bento box combination comes with a choice of 2 items, miso soup, rice, california roll, and salad for about $11. Employees are very nice and the best thing of all NO TAX!

Sushi Maru is a typical Japanese restaurant with its main focus on the sushi boat in the middle. I recommend sitting at the boating area because that's where all the action is. The prices here are incredible(!), and the low prices are not inversely relative to the quality of the food - I thought the food was absolutely delicious. The salmon sashimi tasted fresh and smooth.
To give an idea of the prices - the two of us ordered a two-item bento box (chicken teriyaki and sashimi which came, in addition, with 3 california rolls, soup, salad, and rice) and about 5 plates from the boats. The total, with drinks, came out to just $27.
The service was prompt and not incredibly exception, but they were always polite and efficient. One cannot ask for more than that in such an establishment. If you're jonesing for some Japanese food but don't want to take out another mortgage to afford it, I recommend Sushi Maru!
