Country Gourmet is what I used to wish the Good Earth was (but it never was). Simple, good, not too greasy food in a really nice atmosphere. It's kind of strange that you order before you sit down, but the restaurant acknowledges that, and even suggests (on a little card) that if we tip, we don't tip as we would for a full service restaurant. It suggests 5 to 7%. In any case, I could get used to a little quirkiness, I think, because the food is so good, and the ambience is so nice and relaxing. Pros: Food, atmosphere Cons: You have to order before you sit down, right by the entrance

This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. It's a great place for barbeque, and it's nice while very informal (paper towels at the tables). The food comes very quickly and is always excellent, and it's pretty inexpensive -- you pay for great food, not fancy digs. I especially like their brisket and Memphis pork, and I know other people really like their ribs. They have a variety of sauces, a couple of beers on tap, and a couple of TV's with sports events. I go here every single time I visit Silicon Valley.
