I don't know which was worse, the elderly woman with the dirty unkept black wig placed askew on her head (we think she was the owner), the inexperienced inattentive waiter who couldn't answer a single question we asked about the menu, or the "new york strip steak" with a bone in it ("that's what our butcher says is a new your strip") and so much gristle you couldn't cut through it. We were celebrating a retirement, and it was such a nightmare that we're going to pretend last night never happened and go out and celebrate tonight at Il Postale. Hardy's Bavarian is a dump. Don't waste your money or your time. Pros: None Cons: Scary staff, dreary atmosphere, poor quality food

I think I have been to all the German places outside SF in the bay area, and I think this place is great. The food is fresh and tasty and the service is nice and charming. The only downside is that Hardy's is understaffed, so the service can be slow, but they are sweet people that serve you. The beer is great, they obviously clean their keg lines regularly, but damn, the food is great. I haven't had anything there I didn't like. Pros: Food, price relative to comperable places, friendly service, variety of German beers Cons: Only con is they are understaffed, so the service is not quick, but they are great people

The other reviews for this restaurant are off base... judging by their reviews, we would have never gone. This was probably some of the best german food I've had in a very very long time. Everything we had was spectacular. Yes, the service was _very_ slow, but they made up for it with a soup, overly generous portions for the starters, a salad before the main course. Don't go here for a quick meal, enjoy the experience, take a little bit of time and relax. Pros: Good food, great environment Cons: service is slow, but the two older women who run the place are great charm.

I tried to get a reservation for Valentine's Day. After finding out that they had it available, I politely inquired about the restaurant to make sure it was a suitable date place (important as some German places are designed to resemble beer halls and are not appropriate for a romantic dinner for two). Ended up getting a snide response and the hostess hanging up on me. Like the other person's review said, I guess they don't want "just anybody's business." Even if you don't want to eat there, perhaps this will serve as a suitable "insult hotline." You decide... Pros: None that I can tell Cons: Rude service

Hardy's was my favorite restaurant ever since I can remember (at least 10 years). I've been going there for all my birthdays, celebrations, ect; spending at least $80 for two people at dinner, and $25 takeout for myself during my visits. The staff know my parents by name due to their continual patronage also. To my suprise, I WAS DENIED SERVICE today. When I first walked into the restaurant I was ignored (there were 2 people sitting at the bar and only two tables were occupied with customers). Finally after a few minutes of just standing there while other customers were greeted coming in after me, I was asked how I may be assisted. I stated I would like to order food to go. After the woman shuffled around some papers, she approached me and whispered that they do not do "To Go" orders! I can't even begin to explain the shock after recommending and bring a good amount of business to the establishment throughout the years! I have never been denied service in my life and do not recommend anyone to visit a place where they pick and chose who they serve - the drive over with todays gas prices would just be a waste of your time to see if they are willing to serve you or not. I highly doubt after ten years of service myself and now my family will ever return or recommend such a place. Pros: Good food if they let you order Cons: I was denied service after 10 years of visiting this restaurant!
