I was very excited to try this highly recommended restaurant. I was deeply disappointed when my rolls were tasteless. To make them edible, I asked for spicy mayo and eel sauce which did NOT help. Then, they had the nerve to charge me for the sauces. Terrible! Very disappointed!
Pros: Very disappointing!
Cons: Charged for a side of sauce!!!

MATSUDA! This restaurant has had the same owner for a decade. The food is truly fantastic, the flavors and special recipes are my favorite. I recommend the Fried onion Albacore Sashimi, Tuna tartar, Citrus Halibut Carpaccio, Spicy Tuna Biscuit, Studio City Roll, Superstar Roll. Chef's special is 3 pieces of sushi a la carte, chosen from the catch of the day. Fresh. The wait staff is very attentive too.
Try everything from the specials.

When you step into Matsuda you are greeted with warmth. This is a family owned joint with simple yet, satisfying and truly delicious food. I always start with Tuna, albacore and taco sashimi and end with the Spider roll. The ambiance is relaxing, the food is top notch and I will always go to Matsuda over anything else on the Blvd. Fresh fish, delicious rolls and great specials (shishito peppers) Tuna tartar, spicy tuna biscuit, crunchy albacore roll!
Pros: Delicious food, great menu, Japanese owned

This is one of the best family owned restaurants in the area. Amazing fresh fish that melts in your mouth and delicious specials like Tuna tartar which is fresh diced tuna with sliced avacados and thinly sliced jalapenos on a beautifully decorated plate! The albacore sashimi and uni with a shiso leaf and a squirt of lemon is to die for. I love this place and I love the service! Hands down the best place in town. Delicious!!!!!!!!
Pros: Fresh fish, delicious specials, friendly staff

So I went here after reading the glowing reviews by others. Boy, was I disappointed. Maybe because we went for lunch, but that really shouldn't matter.
Their special of the day, Bluefin Tuna, was unavailable until dinner. The fish i did get was OK, ordering on not so OK.
The best thing I had was a Spanish Mackeral salad that I had to tell the chef how to make. Ironic, don't you think? The albacore sashimi was bland. Maybe because the Ponzu sauce had little to no flavor.
The Uni, Sea Urchin for you newbies, was bad. Nothing worse in the sushi world than bad Uni!!!
The WAY overpriced Toro was nothing to write home about either.
All in all, I think the people that think this is the "Best sushi on town" need to get out more.
I prefer Kushiyu in Encino or Banzai in Calabasas over this place any day!!!!
Needless to say, I was very disappointed and WAY lighter in the wallet for my trouble.
I would go to any of the other sushi bars on the street before setting foot in this place again.
Pros: I found street parking.
Cons: I ate and paid for the food.

Well I have been hesitant to right this over the past FEW YEARS LOL. Because, I consider this place to be a BIG LA secret. But it seems the word has gotten out to how good it is so here is my review.
Unlike other sushi restaurants Matsudo never has a bad night, the sushi is always top notch. The sushi chef's are incredible and friendly, if your extremely lucky you will go on a night Hiro the owner is behind the counter but it?s not necessary. The staff is very friendly to everyone, and it is a no frills location, which is great. Sure the-hump is also excellent but its entirely different, the-hump is more about the atmosphere, I prefer Matsudo. It's not to pricey more expensive then some less expensive then others. Ninety Nine percent of the staff are Japanese, which in my opinion is a must as who knows sushi better. Saturday nights it has been very busy as of late. Seems like things can't stay secret forever, I?m willing to bet if the customers weren't so protective of this little haunt their would be MANY more reviews on the web. I was there last night and I'm tying myself home tonight, or else I?ll be there again. Definitely the best sushi in LA.
Pros: Incredible Sushi, Great Service.
Cons: None

there is a reason matsuda does not have one negative review. this place is fantastic. the sushi is fresh and inventive, the owners are gracious, and the wait staff and chefs are friendly as can be. its a very well kept secret, which is part of the charm. now there is valet parking nearly every night, too. one time we were overcharged and they called us at home later and told us we had credit waiting there for us. we go just about every week and all other sushi places pale in comparison. its less pricey than most, as well. excellent excellent.
Pros: perfect sushi, great value, gracious staff
Cons: parking
