I've been going here since I was like 4 (30 years). Used to sit at the counter with my grandpa on Saturday's and have a short stack of pancakes with butter. I haven't had pancakes like these anywhere else. This place is the real thing too - even the servers have been there for like 100 years. Saturday mornings can be real busy. The coffee's better than average.
I don't really think the rest of the menu is anything special. But why would you care when the pancakes are so good!
Pros: Best pancakes! And I've tried them all (I think)
Cons: Can be busy, syrup is cheap stuff (be a geek and bring your own :-)), not cheap for diner food

I have been to the best sushi places in the US, from NYC to Vegas, and Kazu in Studio City consistently ranks up there on the top of my list. Everything that I order there has been very good and fresh. It is a small, hole in the wall without the fancy decor, but if you are a sushi lover, this is a MUST try. Everyone that I have taken to Kazu has raved about it and end up taking their spouses back with them. It is not cheap, but also not the most expensive, and you definitely get what you pay for in this case. Everything from the monkfish liver to the melt in your mouth toro is delicious. I have also found them to be very accommodating. My fiance has a gluten allergy, and once I mentioned that to the waitress, the chef prepared a special plate for her with that in mind.
Pros: Fresh and great every time.
Cons: Parking is limited.

I had never heard of Le Pain Quotidien until last week, when I tried it for the first time. The Grilled Chicken & Smoked Mozzarella with Arugula and Basil Pesto Tartine (open faced sandwich) was so tasty, I had to go back today and have it again. The presentation and preparation was absolutely perfect both times I've had it. Every ingredient tasted very fresh and I felt like I was eating a delicious and healthy meal. I appreciated the large carafe of iced green tea delivered to my table, so I could refill my glass without having to expect the server to keep an eye on my glass for me. That's a brilliant idea that I wish more restaurants would copy. Soft orchestral music plays over the restaurant's sound system and filtered sunlight brightens the earthtone and wood interior. If you are trying to choose a lunch location between Le Pain Quotidien and Il Tramezzino (both on the same block), DEFINITELY choose Le Pain Quotidien! They may be in the same city block, but they are on opposite ends of my "star" scale.
Pros: Delicious, fresh food and relaxing atmosphere.
Cons: May be hard to find convenient street parking on a busy day.

I just went here a few weeks ago during talk like a pirate day. Such a great atmosphere, great drinks, nice bartenders. Saw bands, and they even had specialty pirate drinks. I know the locals go here, ran into a few and had just a great time there!

I was looking forward to trying this place due to its large beer selection and promises of burgers. When I walked up and saw the doorman reading Jules Verne I knew this place would become a regular haunt for me as we had an actual intelligent conversation about "Around the World in Eighty Days." The doormen are in high contrast to the bouncers at Clear just a few doors down who seem to enjoy generally yelling "Get the F*#@ Out!" to the crowd when closing . The bartenders at Laurel Tavern are quick and friendly, at least as quick as they can be as this place gets packed every night of the week. Still if a line ever does form, it moves quicker than one would expect. This place has a laidback, community type atmosphere that is extremely rare in LA. The food is excellent, especially the burgers and fries. As for beer, the 1903 Lager is my favorite. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a relaxed evening with good people.
Pros: Beer, Friendly Staff, Burgers, Fries
Cons: Can get very crowded on weekends

The food at this place is delicious, always. There are many items on the menu that I get on a regular basis. Though, I'm writing mostly about how wonderful the customer service is at this particular location. The host was very friendly and seated us promptly. And our waitress, Jenn K., was not only beautiful and courteous, but a hell of a good waitress as well. Many thanks to her and the Daily Grill for a fantastic lunch meeting!
Pros: Great food, friendly service, and Jenn!
