So my friend who goes to school at Stony Brook University asks me do I want to go out an grab bite. I saw sure but I don't have that much money. He says no problem.
He drives for about 15 mins and we hit a steakhouse. I was baffled at how he could say he wants to go to a steakhouse after I said I was low on funds. I said I only had enough for McDonald's or Burger King, he said "That's all you need for J&R's!". So we entered. He said the one thing is that we your funds you gonna have to get the special you can really pick what you want. I assumed that the special was gonna be a 7 oz piece of steak or a burger. But much to my surprise the special which was $9.99, was a 24 oz T-Bone steak with drink and potato wedges. Well I assumed since it was so cheap it must taste bad. Wrong again. This was one of the best tasting steaks I ever had. Well seasoned. Cook just to my request and accompanied by some great fries. I must say this is the fullest I had every gotten for $10.
Well of course we returned to the J&Rs the week after. And this time I was well funded so I was ready to spend a good penny. Much to my surprise all the prices stayed under $20. So I just had the special again. : )
Overall its a great place, friendly atmosphere, good food, and great pricing. I loved it.
Hope this was helpful.

Green Cactus Fresh Mexican Grill is not your local Taco Bell. Granted, they have the same type of food - Mexican quesadillas, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, etc - but the ingredients are fresh which makes a huge difference in taste. It's a great little place for lunch and for the hungry Stony Brook college student - Stony Brook is very close to this grill.

When I attended SUNY StonyBrook, I always went to Stony Books for all of my textbooks. Located right near the Stony Brook LIRR station and across from the college campus - it's within walking distance from the campus dormitories as well for those college students without a car. Their prices were reasonable and definitely less expensive than the university bookstore. Staff was very knowledgeable and are able to help you find what you need quickly. It can get crowded come the start of a semester, but you'll definitely get a better deal. They also do book buybacks at the end of the semester, so you can get some of your money back. I highly recommend Stony Books.

When you don't want to drive all the way out to Flushing, you can pick up some supplies here at Oriental Groceries. Prices are higher than what you would pay in Flushing but it is more convenient. They have familiar items like soy sauce and also sweet rice, dumplings, roast pork buns, canned goods. It's interesting just to walk up and down the aisles. Not the friendliest service but okay.

This school is the reason I have done so well in life - they started me on the right path and taught me what I needed for grad school, and beyond. I received my bachelors from there and loved the teachers I had. The campus is really beautiful and they have done lots of construction over the past few years to add new buildings, parking lots and architecture to it!

This italian restaurant is always busy with many customers but the service is great. I always enjoy a different dish on the menu and the bread they give you is fantastic. They have delicious appetizers and entrees. It is in a great location, right near the movie theater, so you can catch a flick after dinner!

I first came here when I was 12. I loved it, so for my 13th birthday I had a tea party there and made everyone dress in their finest tea outfits (We all looked like we were going to prom). The design is a charming sunny country feel. The tables are floral and lace, and every teapot and cup is vintage and unique.
There is a long list of teas! When I was 12 there was maybe 30, and my favorite was rose petal tea. Now there might be 200 or more, black, green, white teas with flavors ranging from familiar (jasmine and earl gray for example) to unique and daring (Chocolate macadamia nut, pumkin spice, and exotic fruit fusions).
If you like iced tea, they only have a few kinds, like strawberry or peach, which are perfect on a summer day!
There is plenty to eat here too. There is a sandwhich for everyone, there's daily soups, quiche, salads, scones, and my favorite warm bri with apples and crackers.
I really recommend this to tea-lovers and people who are looking for a place that is full of charm and in a very beautiful area.
Pros: Tea list, friendly service, great location, cozy
Cons: closed on mondays!

In an age when everything is a chain it is really nice to see that there are still places like the 3 Village Inn that show the charm of the area. Its not cheap, but worth. But book ahead, its always busy. Beautiful place to have a wedding (there is a gorgeous restaurant).
