As soon as I walked in I started to feel awkward. There were 4 people cutting hair and the place was dead silent. No one said a word to my friend and I until it was my turn to have my hair hacked. My haircut consisted of clipping the sides carelessly and then deciding random places to cut on top with scissors. Finally the lady cutting my hair pulled out a strait edge, which scared the hell out of me, and began shaving the back of my neck. Some how she managed to mess everything up. My buddy who planned on getting a cut decided not to, after watching what happened to me. If you want a patchy haircut in the most uncomfortable environment north of Antarctica this is the place for you.

I have been going to Rinaldo's Barber Shop for more than 10 years. When I first arrived in State College I tried several hair salons and was consistently disappointed - they always washed my hair (why? I wanted a hair CUT), tried to sell me expensive hair products and consistently did a bad job.
Then I discovered Rinaldo's and have been going there ever since. Each time I get an incredibly good haircut. The customers are a cross-section of the State College population - students, workers and professionals and the staff cut any style of hair.
This is a professional barber shop. The staff proudly call themselves barbers, not stylists or beauticians. I was shocked when I read the bad reviews. There must be a reason why the Penn State University president gets his hair cut there every two weeks. The same applies to the mayor of State College and countless other public people who need to look good in front of audiences and TV cameras (this information is easily verified) And of course that's the reason why I go there.
Tips:
Rinaldo's is a walk-in store that doesn't make appointments. This is a university town with a large student population that stays up late and so gets up late - so go to Rinaldo's early in the morning at opening time. Your wait will be minimum.
As a quality business, the shop has a stable staff, not rapidly turning over temporary employees. Christy and Becky (the owner) are superb barbers and will be there when you read this review many years hence.

After walking past this shop many times and seeing the long lines I decided to check it out. I was very disappointed, I think they basically have one haircut that they do, shaved on the sides flat on top. By not listening to what I wanted which is very important I believe at a barbershop I can't recommend Rinaldo's to others.

This place costs $15, and I wouldn't get cut here if it was free. I have had better haircuts at barber schools while I was in college. The treatment isn't so great either, they want to sit you, mow you, and ship you out so that the next customer can take a seat. Avoid this place.
