Yoshi's is a sweet little place in Powderhouse Square, Somerville (a short walk from Davis). They have an excellent lunch box which I think is the best value for lunch in the area. For $7.00 or so you get: an entree (tofu, tempura, salmon, beef, etc.), dumplings, salad, maki, seaweed salad, lettuce salad, miso soup, etc. Can be done all veg as well! Always fresh and tasty, clean decor, very pleasant service. Great neighborhood place.

My husband and I have ordered our chinese food from China Delight for years now - even before we lived where we live now. It is so good. Every once in a while, we've tried substituting in other chinese places to see if a closer place might be just as good, but we have not found a better place yet. We especially love the orange chicken - it is soooo good! We would highly recommend this place (it is located directly next to the Brooks Pharmacy on Somerville Ave).
Enjoy!

It's a shame the Soleil isn't open longer hours, but 9am-4pm it is, and closed on Sunday. The brunch goes until 11 on weekdays and 1pm on Saturday and features the loveliest omelettes I've ever eaten. The coffee is excellent. The sandwiches are fresh and innovative, but you can still get your basic tuna sandwich if you ask. Don't be scared of the purple slaw next to your lunch, it's good. The staff is kind and remember you if you're a regular. Try the specials. Napkins are at the front counter. The Soleil has wifi now - you have to pay, but hey, just like Diesel without the crowds.

My book group chose to gather at Zoe's for our monthly meeting. I hadn't had GOOD chinese food in years, so I wasn't actually expecting much. I was truly pleasantly surprised! Zoe's is GREAT chinese food, and is by far the best in the greater Boston area. I highly recommend the scallion pancakes for an appetizer and the Spicy Chicken with Hot Pepper, as well as the General Gau's chicken. Our table also ordered a whole fried fish which everyone loved, along with the eggplant with garlic sauce. The service was excellent, and one good tid-bit to know - it's a B.Y.O.B restaurant, with a handy liquor store directly across the street. We brought our own bottles of wine and had a great time!

My friends keep coming back to Orleans for its fabulous mojitos which have a fruity kick to them. I come back for a cold glass of chardonnay and a window seat after work, or for an outdoor appetizer (they commandeer Comcast's parking lot after hours, and it's not as bad as you'd think) in summer. The place gets really hopping at night and is packed on weekends. The food is usually good and the Sox game, for better or for worse, shows on big screens all over the place. It gets loud in here so prepare to scream after sundown. Also a decent brunch goes until 3 or 4 and is never crowded, although the atmosphere is awfully sterile.

I love everything about this cafe, but the scones are absolutely amazing. Try the cinnamon raisin. I promise, I wouldn't rave if they were run-of-the-mill.
The staff are friendly, never condescending, and they almost always play good music. Coffee and breakfast sandwiches are terrific, too.

More
Kelly's diner is located in Ball Square and competes with Soundbites for the weekend breakfast crowd. Not that there is any need to compete because both restaurants always have a line out the door - rain or shine. Unlike Soundbites the atmosphere is much less rushed and you are not packed in like a sardine. The food is excellent. They serve the typical breakfast menu with greasy hangover foods like eggs, sausages, bacon and more. You definitely want to go early to avoid the crowd or be prepared to wait.

Best Chinese Food in Maguon Square, or Ball Square.
The dim sum (or gouza) are delicious. The flavors tend towards more intense chinese flavors.
The ambience is generic chinese food resteraunt. Many Chinese residents of somerville eat here, so I assume that it is good. If you know a chinese special dish you can request the chief to whip it up for you.
I recommend the Kung Pow Chicken.
They deliver.

Tacos Lupita is the only place in som/cambridge where you can get some authentic food. It's very tasty. Mind you this is a taco joint - in & out. However, I don't think the owners are that pre-occupied with hygine and cleanliness. I guess it's part of the charm that gives off that "authentic feel", but still....

Words can barely describe the food at Dali's. The tapas (small appetizer portions of dishes) that are served here are miniature works of art (fitting name)!
They serve a big basket of bread with your meal, so you can dip it in all the wonderful sauces that come with the tapas. There are about 30-40 tapas to choose from, including many choices for vegetarians. The place gets very crowded so get there early or expect to wait. They do have a great bar with a great wine selection.
