My recommendation for the tenderest BBQ is a rack of babyback ribs, accompanied with some fried okra and a pint of hard cider, among other things.

If you have a craving for BBQ, then this place will certainly satisfy your needs with huge servings of whatever meat you can imagine. Also, if you're on the bar side, then you'll find an extensive and unique beer selection. The one downside is that if you've had really good, tender, juicy BBQ before, then this place will surely disappoint. While the food's not bad, the meat isn't all that tender and the sauce isn't all that spectacular.

The restaurant has an upstairs split into a bar and restaurant and a downstairs which is more restaurant seating. All sides tend to be crowded though. The food's pretty good, even if you're vegetarian. I always order sides, and the portions are a lot bigger than you'd think (so I usually end up with leftovers). They have a dessert name "white trash" something or other that I decided to try when I last went...It's basically 4 ice cream sandwiches covered in whipped cream. Yum yum!

Redbones BBQ in Somerville, MA is literally some of the best bbq I've ever had. I'm from Texas, so that is a pretty bold statement. Everything that I've ordered there has been excellent--from the pulled pork to the ribs to the garlic hush puppies, you can't go wrong with what you order. The service is also great. The servers are nice and the food comes almost as quickly as it was ordered. The atmosphere is also very relaxed and casual, lending itself to many types of eating scenarios (dates, family, party, etc.). The alcohol menu is also great, providing a wide selection of beers and nifty cocktails. I highly recommend Redbones!

That's what a Southern friend of mine called Redbones at first sniff of her brisket plate. As a Northerner I can add that the meat is tender and almost unbelievably good, the corn fritters are a dangerous treat, and the well stocked bar, with many local ales, will make a beer aficionado swoon (Anglophiles, you can get a snakebite here too, and it's perfect). Underbones, the bar downstairs, is open late, has full food service, and is a fine, loud, friendly gathering space after that 10pm movie gets out. The lemonade comes in a giant mason jar, the sauces are varied, the service is leisurely but knowledgeable. And the prices? Cheap, cheap, cheap.

The greens are the slightly vinegary greens you'd get down South minus the cube of fatback some Southerners actually want to eat. The dirty rice is loaded with bits of liver, onions, etc.. The pulled pork and pulled chicken are as good as any I've had at any family dinner. The sauce is not overwrought with either vinegar, sugar or worcestershire... a hard balance to accomplish if you don't know a secret recipe. Everything is served large and piled high. The cornbread is automatically set down with your tea and is of the lightly sweet cakey variety. More is always just a please away. The only complaint I have with this place is that the catfish batter could use a bit more hot sauce (but then again, you CAN add it yourself). Overall, the price is right, the atmosphere loud and friendly and the food able to comfort homesick Southerners. What more can you want?

Though the brisket is excellent, the service is lacking and the restaurant itself is pretty dirty. I guess it's not supposed to be elegant, but would it kill them to sweep and mop occasionally?
Lines for this restaurant can be quite long so try to go during not peak times if you do not want to wait.

Ribs. Cornbread. Collard greens. Sausages of varied flavors (cilantro and onion being my personal favorite). Skin on French fries. Jelly jar mugs of iced tea. Local beers on tap. Any of this sound good? Well it is! Redbones is amazing! The ribs melt in your mouth. They come with a choice of hot, mild, sour and medium sauce and you can even watch them slow cook them in the open style kitchen. Skip lunch if you’re eating dinner here because the portions are huge!
