As others have said, Sound Bites will never disappoint in terms of their fabulous breakfast offerings. However, depending on what type of atmsophere you're looking for - Sound Bites may disappoint. If you go on a weekend, expect to wait. But, the wait won't be too long, b/c the staff rushes diners through their meals in order to seat the next party in line. It can get a little ridiculous! You appreciate when you're the person standing in line - but you are completely annoyed by it when you're being forced to swallow without chewing in order to free up the table! My suggestion - go on weekdays, later in the morning. It's an entirely different atmosphere, where you can enjoy your delicious food without the frenzy!

This place is great for breakfast, brunch, or early lunch. Their home fries, instead being typical diner cut potatoes, are mashed and mixed with sour cream--tastes more delicious than it sounds! Your meal also comes with your choice of coffee, tea, etc. that you get yourself and can even take with you since they offer paper cups. The only downside to this place is that it gets VERY busy. When it gets busy, the servers are not very patient and the place becomes sort of factory-like. Best to come on weekdays, unless you don't mind waiting in line and being rushed on the weekends.

I confess: I have never been to Soundbites on the weekend. I've heard too many stories about people getting rushed out, berated for bringing a newspaper or children, and having no time to enjoy their meal. I am here to tell you that it is a whole different place during the week. It is relatively quiet (except for graduation time when students bring their families). The staff are friendly and thoughtful. You can sit there for an hour with that second cup of coffee and no one cares. You can read the damn paper. I love Soundbites...during the week. The pancakes are stellar (I don't usually like pancakes), the stuffed french toast is decadent, the fruit bowl is beautiful and often has treats like papaya, and the benedicts are terrific. Beverages are DIY at the back, the staff will put it on your check. Soundbites closes at 3 so you can sneak in at 2:30pm and still grab a quick bite. My five stars is based on my experience during the week only.

As others have said Soundbites is not the place to go if you want to take your time. The restaurant is very small and the tables are packed in close together. You will have to trip over other tables to get to your seat. The staff expects you to be ready to order right away and you have to serve your own coffee or drink. The food is delivered as it comes off the grill so some people in your party are served before others.
Despite all this the food and coffee is very good. Their fruits are fresh and tasty and I've never seen anyone get a bad meal.
You definitely want to get here early to avoid the lines and come prepared to eat and run.

In addition to having a very mediocre meal we were horrified by the fact that the manager threw out a table of customers for taking too long to order. He then proceeded to scold the entire dining room for being lazy stupid americans. Needless to say we got up and walked out, as did the entire restaurant. Not to mention the huge line that he had waiting to get in was informed of his AWFUL attitude, they left as well. The soup nazi thing does NOT work here...

Driving down broadway any weekend morning (rain, shine or snow) you will see a line of people snaking towards Boston street. They are waiting for the snarlyest best breakfest in Somerville.
A warning sign greets you, "There are people waiting in line, don't linger over your breakfest." This is so true.
Now you are inside and ready to order. The Golden Grilled Corn muffin is the most popular. The hashbrowns are made with garlic and very tasty.
When you finish you are expected to leave quickly, or even asked to leave quickly. Think Soup Nazi and you will get the picture.
The key trick is getting there before all the college students with hangovers meander over. Then the wait is not so dear.
