I won't be able to read all the reviews. But I can see a lot of 4 and 5 stars. I went there twice. I had tea there it was good. I heard this place has a lot of my L people. I guess so but could not check them out because i was never alone when I went there twice. The first time was for a job interview and second a meeting. I don't chill in Somerville and don't chill at cafes so it will be difficult to find me there. Davis square just does not do it for me. The place looks ok. They have pool tables. The staff is alrite. The restrooms were not perfect. Truereview here to tell you the truth.

I love Diesel, they serve some of my favorite tea blends -- but my only complaint is that it is SO crowded. Anytime I try to meet a friend it's nearly impossible to get a seat. Students show up and take over an entire booth (that could seat 4) just for themself and their laptop. They camp out for HOURS. I wish there was a place designated for studying - and then the rest of the place for regular customers.

Everything is good here...if you can get a seat. Your best shots are early morning, midafternoon, and after 10pm. If the Someday is kind of a hippie townie spot, Diesel is all right angles and irony and chrome. Not so much comfortable but a good place to work. It can get loud. The coffee is excellent, the employees are efficient and friendly and the sandwiches are decent with several vegetarian options - you can get them until around 10:30pm. Lots of vegan baked goods. Decadent/dangerous mint chocolate or peanut butter chocolate squares (decidedly nonvegan). Most of the outlets are at the back around the corner, in the "work area." A little quieter back there too - someone I know even got shushed by the laptop crowd for talking with his friend nearby. Attitude or commitment? You decide.

Diesel Cafe has a great menu. They have a lot of unique drinks that the other local coffee shops don't serve, such as my favorite the chocolate chai. I have not eaten there, but their food also always looks good. They offer a lot of healthy options and some vegetarian options. All of the employees are very friendly and happy to thelp you out.
I usually find the atmosphere to be too busy to do any work. Lots of people coming in and out and some boisterous patrons. Last time I was there they had some pool tables set up with fairly inexpensive rates. It can be a nice alternative at night to some of the local bars.

The decor is raw. Images of industry, mass production, and waste are sort of the theme. Plywood floors, tables made of junction boxes. The coffee is good. The lemon squares are too eggy for my taste. It is actually quite enormous and extends far into the back where you'll find designer couches, a pool table, and a photo booth.

Right across from Starbucks, Diesel is anything but corporate-looking. Most baristas are women in boys' outfits with body piercings and black boots, and the whole place has an "alternative" look. While I prefer Starbucks for coffee (though you may not), I'd definitely point to Diesel for food. They have a nice sandwich, soup, salad and sweets menu that has never disappointed me.
They also re-did the whole place this year. I can't remember if they kept the pool tables, but they opened up theback of the store with more seating and a computer area - much appreciated by the grad student in need of caffeine, food and place to study.
