There are 20 -- TWENTY -- screens at the Majestic, a mega movie theater in the heart of Silver Spring's redevelopment. No matter what you want to see - unless it's a foreign movie or an art-house flick - it will be there. Maybe on two screens. But if you come here on a weekend day, expect lines -- lines to buy your ticket, lines to buy popcorn, lines for the restroom. It's a popular place. It's what you'd expect as far as movie theaters go, and could perhaps be a little cleaner (the constant crowds must make it very difficult to keep up, at least on the weekends). There is lots of free parking at two nearby garages, at least on the weekends (though you should expect to hunt for a space for some time at either of these), and lots to do around the theater. There are your basic outdoor mall offerings...Border's, Starbuck's, Austin Grill, but also some surprises, including branches of Phillip's (the seafood restaurant on the waterfront and in Baltimore) and Lebanese Taverna.

I love the movie theatre they just opened down in Downtown Silver Spring. Alright, let me tell you about it. As soon as you enter, you buy your tickets (as usual), then you ride up these HUGE escalators and when you look up they have these figure shaped films that extend to the top and light up (I'm getting these tingling feelings as I'm talking about it right this minute!). Then you have the many lines for the snack bar, so you barely have to wait in line for anything. Then on my way to see King Kong, you enter the theatre and they have GREAT seats for everybody and it seems like they got them all from Marlo's or something. That movie theatre is bringing Silver Spring's population to a dramatic increase and I'm just glad to be living here.
