It always seems like I am stepping back in time whenever I go to this bowling alley. It just doesn't seem to have evolved since around 1975, but then it is a bowling alley, and I guess there haven't been that many developments to the sport in recent years. This place is a lot of fun, despite the decor. It is duckpin bowling and they have bumper lanes available for the kids and those of us who are bowling-challenged. It costs about $8 a person for the shoes and the game, but you can spend a while on your lane playing. They have a kitchen where you can get food--mostly greasy hamburgers and chicken fingers. And they also have a little arcade with five or six video games. Also on Saturday nights they have Cosmic bowling where you pay about $15 for the night to come in a bowl to funky music under blacklights; this fun if you go with a crowd but mostly dominated by teenagers.

I love the movie theatre they just opened down in Downtown Silver Spring. Alright, let me tell you about it. As soon as you enter, you buy your tickets (as usual), then you ride up these HUGE escalators and when you look up they have these figure shaped films that extend to the top and light up (I'm getting these tingling feelings as I'm talking about it right this minute!). Then you have the many lines for the snack bar, so you barely have to wait in line for anything. Then on my way to see King Kong, you enter the theatre and they have GREAT seats for everybody and it seems like they got them all from Marlo's or something. That movie theatre is bringing Silver Spring's population to a dramatic increase and I'm just glad to be living here.

Shandycom African Arts is the place to go if your interesteed in African Art. They have the best wooden sculptures straight out of Ghana, West Africa. They range from many prices that are affordable. They even sell clothing that will bring you into the African vibe. Drums, wooden canes, wooden animals, masks, tall sculptures, profiles, EVERYTHING!!! Everything yo could possibly need is at Shandycom African Arts.

This is the Silver Spring stage of the renown Round House Theatre. This facility has only been open a few years and is in the heart of Downtown Silver Spring. It is a smaller stage and venue than the main Bethesda location, but the shows that show here are often just right for a more intimate atmosphere. Round House seems to save this location for the more daring pieces, like last year's Tabletop and colimbinus, which were both some of the best Round House productions in recent years. Prices are about $50 for tickets but they sometime offer discounts for students.

I was a bit worried the first time I went into this store, since I am not an Adventist. However, I found the store to be welcoming to everyone and not at all intimidating. The food section is rather small, but they carry a lot of vegan items that are hard to find even in some of the area health food stores. Some of what I found included quarts of Tofutti ice cream and shredded Tofutti cheese; two things I have never seen anywhere else. The store also has a ton of books and gifts that are religious in nature.

This is a good shop for anyone artistic to have near by. They have a good selection of drawing and painting materials, clay, photography goods and a lot of the accessories necessary to create artistic works. The prices are higher than you are going to find at bigger stores and the selection is also a little smaller. This place also frames pictures, which is handy if you have finished a piece.

This shop used to be in DuPont, but now has a much bigger selection of new and used vinyl. Good punk selection. They also have a dance floor. If you like to browse over records in person, rather than just on eBay, it is worth the trip. Some hard-to-find albums and remarkable variety. They can also help you track things down.
