Is Shabu Shabu the next Sushi?
It's amazing how few people know about Shabu Shabu - I have been enjoying going to this simple, down-to-earth Japanese restaurant in the Valley to savor thinly sliced prime beef cooked by yourself in a hot water pan, by holding the beef with chopsticks and "swishing" back and forth until it's done to one's liking.
(Shabu Shabu supposedly means "Swish Swish" in Japanese).
It's very reminiscent of other "fondue" settings, with the difference that you sit at a bar, and have your own individual deep pan of water that turns into an incredible broth after you're done cooking all your beef.
The ladies working there are SO friendly, and if you tell them that you're a first-timer, they will walk you through the whole ceremony...
Parking is a bit of a challenge, but where isn't that the case in LA these days, and I would say they are somewhat pricey for a meal you cook yourself... (about $30-40 per person, without alcohol - depending on the quality of meat and size of your order). If it were more in the $20-$25 range, I would probably go much more often, instead of just for a "special" night.
I've been going there with friends and family for more than a dozen times now, and can safely say that they are very consistent.
Last time I went with a bunch of friends (make sure you reserve, as there are only about 20 seats) to celebrate a B-Day: it was a fun evening, particularly because we were able to sit at the horse-shoe-shaped bar, thus allowing for lots of conversation with everyone.
We will definitely be back for more!
Pros: healthy food, fun and conversational atmosphere
Cons: parking a bit challenging at times, a little pricey compared to downtown Shabu Shabu places

The store is very attractively decorated with wall to wall selves of colorful jars. They also carry the appropriate containers for the candles.

Richard Vasquez has been my stylist FOREVER! I live in Simi but still go to Sherman Oaks to have him do my hair because of the "cutting edge" styles that he does with colour and cut and he is a real cool guy. The salon is modern, clean, and stylish but has a relaxed atmosphere and not pretentious like some other salons. All the stylists and the owner are really cool and friendly. I love going to the salon, getting pampered and feeling and looking like a million bucks when I walk out!

I recently visited this Wiliams Sonoma and was immediately inspired to cook! The smell of mulling spices wafted through the store when I entered as they were preparing for a cooking class. I never used to like cooking, but something happens to me in Williams. I love looking at the gadgets, canisters, cookboos and cookware. I have now learned to love cooking. The employees are very helpful and nice and you can tell that they love cooking. Anyone who might think they would enjoy cooking or baking, I would recommend visiting their local Williams Sonoma. You will walk out feeling like you can cook anything!!
