I guess I come from the Great White North, in that I grew up on Tim Horton doughnuts. Top Pot definitely provides a substantial product, but I've been dissappointed with the amount of grease when I bite into them. Don't get me wrong, they're quite tasty but I wouldn't go eating more than one per sitting.
It still seems difficult to get a really good doughnut without driving across the border!

I love Seattle for many reasons. Great veggie food is only one. I have, however, been consistently disappointed with Carmelita. The food is alright. I like a resatuarant that gets a little innovative. Carmelita fits that bill. Yet, the half-dozen times I've eaten there - service has been excruatiatinlgy slow and surly. Once - we waited 20 minutes for the hostess to get off the phone and seat us - acting as though the customers were bothersome. I prefer Cafe Flora. No doubt.

Those of us with busy, curious, rampaging toddlers need places to go where we can chat without having to apologize for the fact that our kids act like kids. My Coffee House is a decent option. On one hand, the play space is large and full of toys. On the other hand, it is way too crowded most of the time, it is pretty dirty (and I am not a clean freak by any means), and the staff seems to hate the customers. You be the judge.

Neelam's used to be on University Ave, but now they're on Greenwood Ave. The atmosphere is nothing special, but the food is quite good. Honestly I haven't found better in Seattle (I always get the chicken tikka masala). Nice people and good prices too.

This W Seattle B&J's is a great community gathering spot. Besides the ice cream, they just did free cone day (a big hit and we ran into lots of friends and neighbors) and do a weekly story-time on Tuesdays. Pre-school kids from 6:30-7 and school age from 7-7:30. Wear your PJ's and get a free topping. Just a nice place to enjoy the W Seattle friendly community.

More
I’d like to give a shout out to my favorite Vietnamese sandwich joint, Saigon Vietnamese Deli. And if you’ve never had a Vietnamese sandwich, I’d like to call your attention to the concept. First off, a Vietnamese sandwich is a delicious byproduct of the former occupation of Vietnam by France.
For their new colony, The French brought over fresh baked rolls and mayonnaise. The Vietnamese added pork or chicken, carrots, cucumber, peppers and cilantro. And thus, a sumptious sandwich was born.
Over the years, I’ve ordered sandwiches at numerous delis in and around the ID. But for now, I always return to my go-to sandwich place, Saigon Vietnamese Deli for their grilled pork version.
I’ve found their rolls to be generous in size and always fresh. The pork is not deli sliced, but grilled on a skewer. And the veggies are always crisp—which perfectly compliments the warm, chewy bun and hot pork meat.
There is also a multitude of other lunch offerings of the chicken/pork/tofu stir fried with vegetables variety served alongside rice or noodles. They all look excellent if not a bit mysterious. And if the sandwiches weren’t so good, I would probably sample more of these dishes.
Saigon Vietnamese Deli is located in a well-worn strip mall at 12th and Jackson. Parking can be difficult and there’s no place to sit—just enough room to order standing up with the other lunch regulars. Surprisingly, the space has grown by a third since I first started visiting. Every entree is very reasonably priced which has attracted a faithful homeless following.
So if you find yourself near the ID with a cheap lunch craving, don’t let the rough edges deter you. An excursion to Saigon Vietnamese Deli for a Vietnamese sandwich is definitely worth your lunch hour.

Then go to Dick's! I'm sorry - I KNOW, it's an Icon and all that and I've tried but... I. Just. Do. Not. Like. This. Place. Every time I've been here, the bun has been stale and there's nothing special about the burgers. The fries are especially repulsive to me - I prefer crispy fries, so the limp wet-with-grease variety that they serve here does nothing for me. I'd much rather go to Dave's in Lynnwood or Mikie's in Everett - now *those* are burgers!

We became big fans of Buena Vista last summer because they have excellent mojitos that are perfect under one of the umbrella adorned tables on their big patio. There are about 10 round tables outside and i've seen them set up long tables for bigger groups. inside they have more seating and salsa dancing with live music. I think the food is quite good and you can get it to go in case you want to dock your boat and have a floating picnic.,
