Although I really had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started reading, Ender's Game is now one of my all-time favorite reads. This sci-fi book is a fast and engaging story of a little boy on a quest to save the world. I'd suggest it to all ages, although some of the content is a bit heavy for younger readers. Card has a quarter of books in the series, and I guarantee that if you read this and like it, you'll be hooked!

I am not a big fan of space age sci-fi. When my girlfriend suggested this book to me, I decided to humor her and give it a try. Within the first 10 pages I was hooked. I had trouble putting the book down. With each turn of a page, something new happened. This of course is what made it hard to break away from.
Everyone who has ever felt unwanted can relate with Andrew (Ender) Wiggin. In a world where you are allowed to only have 2 kids at the most, he was "a third". An exception. Fate played him as an important role to the survival of the human race. With his sadistic older brother constantly making deadly threats to him, he is fueled to become better, and go above and beyond anyone that comes into his path.
Mild swearing, great psychology, and a beautiful plot that just goes to show, even the little guy can be the difference between extinction and life itself.
This is by far, my favorite book. I immediatly picked up the next book "Ender's Shadow".

First book in the Ender series by Orson Scott Card. Even if you're not a big science fiction reader this story of an exceptional child being called upon by the human race to save them from the Buggers will draw you in. A great story to read with your teens, though beware there is some foul language. Follow Andrew "Ender" Wiggin as he goes to Battle School and learns to fend for himself against bullies, teachers, and Buggers.

This is another of my favorite books. Orson Scott Card tends to write about children who are exceptional in one way or another.
The earth has been attacked by monsters and the world is able to fight them until they retreat. Scared that the buggers will come back, the government starts breeding children that are good at war. The children are smart, competitive, brave, and very good at strategy. Ender is special and is chosen to go to the training center.
The training center is in space and filled with talented kids. The children spend their days studying war and playing war games. Ender excels.
The story is about the relationships that Ender has and his own inner turmoil.

My favorite book of all time is this great Science Fiction work by Orson Scott Card. A war being fought millions of miles away in space is to be fought by the brightest of children some day in the future. The strategic simulations that these students must endure will decide who will lead the battles that are yet to come. This book made me think "how did he come up with that" every chapter and I couldn't put this book down. It is a great story. The sequels are good as well and once you read this book, you will want to read Ender's Shadow as well which parallels the story through another student's eyes.
