Mode does a lot of advertising and marketing. They do discounts for newbies, discounts if you refer people to them, email advertising, snail mail advertising and they post to all the relevant websites.
That said, they are indeed a down-to-earth salon with reasonable prices. My haircut was disappointing - I really don't think the stylist had a clue how to cut my type of hair. (I was refered to her by the salon as THE one to see if you have curly hair.)

My Dog Can't Use Her Leg!!!

My puppy broke her leg and we had it cast at 5 corners in Burien late at night. Lien was supposed to fix it the next day if it was uncorrectly cast to begin with, but they never did even after they took X-Rays, assuming that it was cast correctly to begin with, I didn't worry. Every week that I had her recasted (by Lien), they charged me a different price for the same thing that I had done the previous week. Doesn't make any sense at all? I had to take my paperwork back from the previous time and show them that I had been overcharged time and time again. When I was supposed to bring her in and leave her there for the day, I got a call after 1 hour and was told to come and pick her back up because they couldn't do what was scheduled that day. But I was at school so I couldn't get there until about 2 hours later. I was expecting that I wasn't supposed to be there until 5pm since this is what I was told. When I got there, my dog had been there about 3 hours and they tried to charge me a whole days kenneling fee, even though they didn't do any work on her. They told me to reschedule so i would have to bring her in again, and pay another kenneling fee later. So they charged me twice. After some months went by, my dog got her cast off. I was charged a total of about $3000.00 throughout the whole process and guess what!!! THEY DIDN'T HEAL MY DOGS LEG CORRECTLY SO NOW SHE CAN'T WALK ON IT!!! After that much money and stress, they won't even see my dog for free to tell me what I can do to help her. They want to charge me $50.00 to look at her leg AGAIN. All they had to do was cast the leg correctly, which they apparently couldn't do. I'm not one to complain, but when my dog is suffering and I paid out a lot to fix the problem, and nothing was done correctly, I think I have a right to be pretty upset. I would not recommend Lien.

I have been to this salon on several occasions. I have had some good services, foil, haircuts.
However I must comment on the attitude in the place. Rude on the phone, rude while I was waiting, and rude when I left.
Last time I checked my money spent just as well as anyone else's. When you spend $200 or up for services they should treat everyone like a celebrity.
Not sure why a good salon like this thinks it needs to be snobby?
2 stars for attitude.

Expect to 'See' Bad Service With University District's Davis Optical X-press

Going to get your eyes checked is not something that people look forward to. Therefore it should be easy, comfortable and a somewhat enjoyable experience. At least that is how I have always felt after getting my eyes checked, until I decided to go to Davis Optical X-press in the University District. This place has been known to make their customers feel underappreciated and frustrated, and believe it or not it was the first Davis Optical store that opened! Before I totally influence your opinion about this place, I want to be clear on what I am ranting about. The 'contact lens' section of the store is the problem, not the 'glasses' section of the store. I do not want to send the 'glasses' department any bad exposure because the people over at the 'contact lens' section cannot seem to keep their bad attitudes to themselves. Regarding my personal experience I had the unfortunate pleasure to visit this place more than once because this doctor did nothing in his power to help me find the kind of contacts that were right for me. Every time I had to go back, every time I wanted to cry. It seemed like I was bothering the receptionist anytime I asked a question or needed her help. The doctor's superior attitude makes you think that you are less of a person. There is only so much rudeness one can take. To get an objective view on this treatment, I asked a few friends to go to this place and to see how they were treated. Without surprise, I was not alone. I want to warn all of you who are in search of a decent optometrist to keep this place in mind and never go there unless you like being mistreated.

If you want good quality tailoring this is the place to go. I still bring my clothes here even though I've moved out of the neighborhood. It's not the cheapest, but they do the best work at a fair price.

Borseno's Barber Shop is a locally owned barber shop in Seattle. It opened its first location in U-District approximately 5 years ago.
At a quick glance, the shop may give off the wrong impression with its industrial/punk decorations, alternative music, and tattooed/pierced stylists, but don't let that fool you... they are truly professionals when it comes to their quality of work and customer service. The combination definitely makes the experience unique and worthwile.
The shop has only 3 seats available, with 2 stylists on staff. Reservations are recommended, but drop-ins are available too.
A typical guy's hair cut runs about $17 dollars, plus gratuity. And I believe the girl's hair cut start around $24. They also do all sorts of coloring, etc...
