This bookstore has many current events books specializing in leftists opinion. They do also carry a range of books in other subjects as well. This bookstore often has clever left leaning bumper stickers for sale and gives discounts to those who know the quote of the day. The fiction and children's section here are okay. This is a good place to stop in with the family. If you are looking for a lot of choice this is not the place for you-go to the University Bookstore instead.

Aside from over priced things at Firefly- this is truly one of the only places I can find in Seattle with Jewish accessories. I am open to other suggestions but for now this place will have to do. Also, you can get great bagels right across the street!

This store is near to Scarecrow video. It carries a huge selection of film scripts, director/actor/actress autobiographies, film critiques, etc. It also has some vintage movie posters and postcards. However, I am looking for books on Japanese films and directors and cannot find many. Would be great if they extend their offering of books related to Asian films.

This is the (only) place to go to get books in Japanese in seattle. They also have magazines. The selections if pretty good, the prices are high on the imported magazines and the prices of the books are more reasonable - but higher than if you bought it in Japan. They dont help much, but book categories are labeled well so you can find what your looking for. They also have english books with japan themes, but these could be found cheaper elsewhere I suspect. Also a good place to hit on Japanese girls browsing the books.

When I was younger my mother used to take me to All for Kid's Books and Music several times a month to let me loose amongst the shelves and shelves of books. I really appreciate my mother for instilling the importance of reading in my life and All for Kid's was a great tool for doing so. The bookstore is chock full of new classics (Harry Potter displays included), yet still stocked with old classics and series (Nancy Drew, Boxcar Children, Goosebumps!). They organize the store well and it is easy to find an age/reading level appropriate book. All for Kid's is independently owned, no big chain logos here, and therefore the store actually has a bit of personality and class to it. Great childhood experience!

I like used book stores, but I was not impressed with this one. It wasn't that cheap and the reason I go to used book stores is to save money. Maybe I've been spoiled by Half Price Books. Also, the selection wasn't very impressive, I couldn't find most of the books that I had gone there to buy. All in all, I'd say try another store.

Seattle Book Center, near the foot of Stone Way above Lake Union and close to Fremont, sells used books - hardbacks only. Copies of some of the latest hardback fiction, history, culture, and art books fill the bright, attractive shelves. Many volumes are in mint condition, with jackets sleeved in plastic, so you often feel you're buying a new hardback at a bargain price (and your friends won't know the difference). Interesting rare volumes are on display, too. Owner John opened the store when his personal library had taken over every room in his house years ago. He's fun to talk with, and browsing is a delight. This used bookstore by the University of Washington has enough intriguing finds to keep me coming back for more. The philosophy and literature sections are especially big and prices are on average pretty good. For instance I recently purchased a Gunter Grass novel that looked brand new for eight dollars (i originally retailed for 16 dollars). They also sell older and more rare volumes. Magus customer service is very good and they buy books in exchange for credit.

Bailey-Coy Books is the perfect independent bookstore for Capital Hill. They have a ton of classic and new fiction, non-fiction, and an extensive gay and lesbian section. Their fiction includes many more obscure titles and most of the works of younger contemporary authors such as Dave Eggers, Michael Chabon, Zadie Smith, etc. Each shelf has employee's picks which are helpful in finding something new, and the taste's of the employee's seems to be dead on as far as my tastes go. They have a lot of new fiction cheap, and also have hard to find collections such as McSweeney's Quarterly. Any hipster would be perfectly at home in Bailey-Coy.

Seattle Mystery Bookshop, located at 117 Cherry St. in downtown Seattle, has one of the best collections of mysteries I've ever seen. The owner, J.B. Dickey, is a great guy who knows everything there is to know about local Seattle mystery writers, of which there are many.
The store constantly has local and national authors in for signings - everyone from James Ellroy and Michael Connelly to G.M. Ford, Curt Colbert and Lee Child.
The bookshop's collection is outstanding and has mysteries, whodunits and true crime from all different eras and countries - noir stuff from the 1930s, Sherlockiana, gritty crime novels like The Black Dahlia, darkly comic and wacky books by Carl Hiassen like Skinny Dip, Sick Puppy and Basket Case and a host of others.
The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the company just moved to bigger digs!
