I have been a dedicated yoga practitioner for the past four years, and The Yoga Tree in Fremont ranks high on my list of favorite studios. The instructors are all very skilled and personable--there is no attitude at this studio and the regulars are friendly. If you're new to yoga, try one of The Yoga Tree's Intro Series classes or a Level One class. If you're more experienced, there are a variety of ongoing classes along with specialty workshops that will leave you feeling centered, grounded, and still physically challenged.
Besides great instruction, The Yoga Tree offers an excellent 200-hour Teacher Training program in conjunction with YogaWorks that I can't recommend highly enough. The teacher training is offered in two formats--a six-month intensive that meets once a month over four-day weekends and an one-month super-intensive program. I completed the six-month intensive teacher training this year and had an amazing experience. The program left me feeling that I can safely instruct a yoga class, but more important for me was growing my personal practice, which has deepened significantly.
Whether you're looking to get into yoga for the first time or want to take the plunge into becoming a teacher or a stronger practitioner, I highly recommend The Yoga Tree in Fremont.
Pros: Excellent Teacher Training Program, Experienced Instructors, Workshops
Cons: Parking can be difficult

Due to the urging of two friends, I recently signed up for a pre-natal yoga class at Eight Limbs with the famous Anne Phyfe. The class itself is excellent- just strenuous enough with great stretching, learning better breathing is key and awareness of the baby is always emphasized. Anne Phyfe is AMAZING-she sends a ripple of calm through all of her students with her voice and soft touch and excellent instruction. The studios are clean and airy and the overall vibe is just plain sweet.

Whether expecting or recovering, I highly recommend the Seattle Holistic Center.
Prenatal: If you are pregnant and located near Wallingford or Greenlake, check out Collette's Prenatal Yoga class. I give them credit for preparing both my mind and body for delivery.
I had days when I thought I had it bad. Then class starts, everybody introduces themselves and shares their ailments (so that it can be addressed in class). Suddenly my aching hip sounds minute compared to Jane who just got back from a month of bed rest! Puts everything in perspective.
I always walked out feeling relieved that I was not the only hormonal person in town!
Postnatal: If you have a crawler/toddler, you can take them to Yoga class! This is the only place that I know that has a parent/toddler yoga class.
With a kid friendly atmosphere, go strengthen your back, calm your nerves and meet great down to earth people. This is a drop-in class. At $16 a class, it is money well spent for my sanity.

After 2 years of saying, "I'm going to try Yoga," I finally did this past February, which proved to be a good decision during the dreary winter months. I decided on Maya because I read about it while walking home one day. The brochure described a beginner's class that took about 6 weeks, once per week. I'm the kind of person that likes to learn how to do things right and not jump into things haphazardly so having a beginner's class was good to learn the fundamentals and highly recommended no matter which studio you decide on.
The class was just the right size of about 10 people. Mari, the instructor was the perfect teacher for beginner's. She taught us the history and vocabulary of Yoga in a very patient and caring manner. Never once did I feel stupid or out of place.
After graduating from the class my girlfriend and I decided to do the 2 month trial membership for $100, which is a steal! We started going 2-3 times per week and got to experience instructors of all kinds from men to women to drills sargents to nurturers. Classes with Tami were perfect for me and my skill level as she was patient and took the time to go over tough poses and correct your mistakes as she walked around and observed the class.
One other thing I discovered is that a lot more men do Yoga than I would have guessed.
Maya is a solid studio and offers all kinds of other services from acupuncture to meal planning. Most everything about the studio is inviting and convenient.
However, the scheduled times could often be tough to make and I often thought they could use more later times to accomodate people's work schedules. Sometimes it's hard to make 5:45 classes.

A great studio, with incredible instructors!!
They work with you and provide lots of great encouragement. They talk you through the postures and help individuals in the class improve. Very supportive teaching style, with positive feedback rather than criticism. I have been practicing there for five years, and both the studio and Bickram yoga are incredible.
I have practiced in other studios in different cities, and the Sweatbox is the best. If you want to practice or try Bickram yoga in Seattle, the Sweatbox is the place!

NW Community Yoga is the perfect community yoga center. Tucked into a quiet neighborhood, this small studio provides everything I need to regain center. The instructors are some of the best I've encountered. They are blessed with skills to gently lead a class at any level and guide a new or experienced yogi toward new levels.
I've taken regular classes with Diane for quite a while and recently begun to explore other instructors. They've all been wonderful.
The studio offers a variety of classes at various hours of the day. Too, they offer a variety of purchasing options from inexpensive drop in rates to discounted monthly or yearly user cards. I've never run into a class too full, and I've always come away feeling stronger, more centered and healthier.
Also, the special workshops are always worth the small extra cost!
If you're expecting a gym environment, this isn't the studio for you. If you like a quiet, private, intimate experience, this is the perfect studio for anyone in Ballard/Greenwood/Phinney Ridge area!

I took classes here for two years, and for a year before that, I took Iyengar instruction in San Francsico. I highly recommend this discipline of yoga for anyone who may feel that they are "not flexible" or may have physical challenges. Iyengar is a great way to learn proper alignment of the poses, something that you don't get with the other types of yoga, like the ones they offer at the gyms. This is definitely not "gym yoga", so go with an open mind.

I have been taking Pilates classes at Todo Bien for over a year now and I have to say it is some of the best instruction I have received. It is also a great location for me (Tangletown neighborhood). The massages are not half-bad, either. The setting may be a little low-key for those used to the more high-tech Pilates studios, but the price is RIGHT ON, the space is charming and cool, and the teachers could not be better.

When I lived in West Seattle I used to go to Sound Yoga. I went to the Thursday evening class with Kimberly. She's the BEST! Very patient and understanding. I was brand new to yoga when I started and she was terrific. I wish she'd teach in my neck of the woods. Hope this helps!
