Isadora's is a great unique store in that all of the clothing that they sell is really in perfect condition. They call themselves Antique clothing specialists. This is a great place to find a vintage suit without holes or fading or stains. I beleive that they have a tailor to customize the suit as well. These clothes are really an investment and something that you will be proud to wear.

I went to a few bridal shops to try on dresses thinking that I knew what I wanted from all of the magazines I had looked at. However, once I tried on the different styles I was able to see what was perfect for my body-type and the type of wedding I was planning. THEN, I went to see Madina and she talked to me and showed me some of the dresses on her showroom floor. After narrowing down the materials and style she sketched the PERFECT dress. I had many fittings and ended up with my favorite dress ever (which it should be) because it was just what I wanted and fit me perfectly.
Madina is a straight talker and will steer you in directions you may not have thought of which can be hard for a bride who has decided what she wants from magazines. However, she is usually right. She knows what womens' bodies do in a dress and how to make the best of your strong points. She won't make you something that won't look good and I know that this has bugged some friends of mine who went in with really specific notions of what they wanted. She is an artist so she can be moody - hilarious at times and very serious at other times.
Also keep in mind that a custom made dress and veil etc. is not cheap and it SUCKS that you are only going to wear it once. HOWEVER, you (and your mom and your in-laws and your grandparents and your sister and your best friend) will all have pictures of you in that dress on their walls for DECADES to come and it is worth every penny!

I am hosting my wedding here in December. I have been planning for about a year and it has been a great experience. I have been to the hotel on several occasions. The rooms are beautiful, the staff is always friendly (everyone from the valet to the front desk to the waitstaff in the bar), and the hotel itself is gorgeous. It is not in the heart of downtown (as far as walking distance from most sights) but the hotel provides complimentary towncar service for all guests. As far as special events are concerned they have taken great care of us. The Top of the Town and Penthouse Suite (where my wedding will be held) has a beautiful view of the skyline. The coordinator has gone above and beyond to make sure my event is just what I imagined it would be. I am truly pleased and would recommend the hotel to anyone!

Stopped into this store this weekend to pick out some toasting flutes and walked out 2 hours later as a knowledgeable consumer on top fine china, flatware, and stemware brands! This store only carries the best brands out there. These people really know what they are talking about and were extremely helpful in helping me choose the best toasting glasses and other pieces to register for. They were honest about where I could find the best prices and gave me the low down on all the brands they carry as well as which brands I would get the most use of out for what I would be paying.
The cool thing about this gallery is that you can register here for all of you china, stemware, and flatware. They also have a program where you can come back in the store after the honeymoon and they will give you the total dollar amount that was purchased for you. So you can look at all the pieces you received as gifts and can either decide to take those pieces or put the total dollar amount towards something else in the store.
I found their prices were the same as Macy's so I would recommend talking to these people and getting exactly what you want rather than being sold to by someone at Macy's who doesn't have a clue what they are selling you!
My Mom was stoked about her visit to the store too because she found pieces from her flatware that had been discontinued. They let her pick out the odds and ends that she was missing to complete her set!

This bakery is a labor of love by a couple who used to work for Boeing. Decided to chuck it all and do what they really like. Which is to get up at 4AM in the morning and bake.
The bakery is just great and as a neighborhood place it is more than friendly. For instance, last time we were there, they gave the kids some donuts.
There are probably finer (e.g., sweeter, more fattening treats), but there is just something about their neighborhood place that is friendly and inviting.

This grand old mini mansion on Capital Hill is a great place for a wedding reception. You can rent the whole place or the upstairs or downstairs for less. The upstairs has enough room for a small band and is perfect for dancing. The whole house rents for 1700 dollars for a wedding reception and includes seating, servers, linens, and china, among many other amenities. The house is beautiful both inside and out. Pictures of the site can be found at http://www.rainierchapterhouse.com/pictures.htm
Try this place before you pay more for your wedding reception someplace not as nice.

The staff there are really happy (too happy?) and seem to like what they do. Yes, they try and get you to stay and be a student for months or years, but they do deliver on their promises to make you a good dancer. Not open on weekends though, which is a bummer.

I brought in a dress with a beaded bodice to be cleaned. The clerk said I'd need to sign a slip that they were not responsible for the beading. That was understandable, so she got out the slip. However, the paper said I was releasing them from ALL responsibility with regard to the garment, which I would not agree to. I'll have to try somewhere else.

More
Blue Ribbon Cooking School primarily offers classes centered on certain menus, the likes of which vary, but are always pretty classy. You might learn how to cook lobster a number of ways or you might learn how to put together a Thanksgiving meal. It's definitely a more authentic kitchen experience than what I've seen at places like Sur La Table, but it isn't ideal for beginners who are unsure about their cooking skills to begin with. At the very least, take a class to see their very pretty, but functional demo kitchen. I wish my house had a kitchen that big!
The owners here seem fairly authentic in their cooking experience, but the learning experience is only so-so. The classes here are mostly hands-on. You'll actually work on real recipes that require you to put together ingredients from scratch. Students rotate from station to station participating in the prep of various dishes that you then sit down to eat together in the diningroom. Because of the way the classes are designed, you don't actually get to work on any one recipe from start to finish (because no kitchen operates serially when an entire meal has to be put together in a matter of hours), but you get to take the recipes home and the chefs at each station will fill you in on what just happened and what will happen with the food after you move to the next station.
The menus and the quality of the food is good and you can learn tidbits of information along the way if you care to ask, but this is not a place where you'll master cooking essentials. Furthermore, you'll have to be prepared to tiptoe around the kitchen. Don't be surprised when Virginia, one of the co-owners, berates you for an offense such as...oh, taking the wrong kind of wine glass into the kitchen. Thank goodness her husband, the other co-owner, is more laid-back and will converse with you about subjects, like where to buy meat (Costco, apparently), without making you feel like a child. If I remember correctly, though, my comment about his handiwork with the knife elicited not a brief explanation of knife technique, but rather, a throwaway response that it just takes practice.
I'll probably come back someday, but only if a menu looks particularly interesting (but then, classes fill up way ahead of time) or if I happen to come back as part of an event (they host big groups for morale events and small receptions).
