Just wanted to post a primary care company which I HIGHLY recommend that's downtown in the Medical/Dental building called Qliance. I fit into a weird niche--I'm a freelancer who's going to school and while I have insurance, in order for it to be affordable I have a really high deductible---which means there's a big gap there if I need to get check-ups, etc. Anyhow, a friend of mine (fellow freelancer) told me about Qliance. I can't speak highly enough about them. They aren't covered by insurance and they aren't an insurance. The cost is sliding scale depending upon your age. My doctor spent an hour and a half going over my history, etc. just so she could be familiar with me personally. It kind of harkens back to the country doctor era. They're great people. They fill that niche. And, if you aren't insured at all it will at least give you comfort in knowing you can at least get a check up and do preventative care--at an affordable price! Anyhow, check them out. You won't be sorry you did. (and, no, I'm not getting paid to endorse them)

Just for a little background, I have 4A hair and perhaps a little 3b in front. So, I use a relaxer to straighten my hair. My favorite relaxer is Phytospecific, Index 1, as I have thin hair. Andrea uses this on my hair and I love it. Before I started seeing her, I was applying my own relaxer or taking it with me to another salon and paying full price for the stylist to apply it. Big rip off.
Anyway, it wasn't the fact that her salon carried the product that impressed me, it was her ability to cut my hair. It was and remains the best cut I've ever had. I like long layers and my hair falls neatly into place regardless of the style (flat iron, naturally dry ).
She doesn't double book, so I am always out of the salon quickly. In addition, the staff is great at Robert Leonard.(downtown Seattle, near Westin Hotel)
Finally, she knows how to handle a flat iron. I'm going in this week for a touch-up relaxer, but when she flat irons my hair the hair stays straight until you get it wet.
Stop in for a consultation. You can also email me and I can provide more details.

It's close and the runs are nice. Crystal offers a little more variety of runs but with Steven's you can just hop up there pretty quickly and get some good skiing in without spending the day driving. I especially like the backside of the moutain, but get there early becuase the backside closes down.

This is not your typical sandwich! Vietnamese Sandwiches (Bon Mi) are chock-full of meat (grilled pork, chicken, ham, tofu, etc.) PLUS veggies (lightly pickled carrots and radish, cilantro, jalepeno). MMMMMMM - totally hits the spot!
They are served on toasted French 10in baguettes. The perfect sandwich and, guess what, they only cost $1.50 to $2.00!
This deli also has rice noodles with grilled meats and all the fixens (Bun) to go. AND salad rolls, egg rolls AND a hot buffet with plenty of meat, vegetables and tofu options with rice. There are tons of other options which I don't recognize and can't decipher - for the more adventurous. There is very little waiting, items are ordered by number and sandwiches are made to order.
There is no seating so get your $2.00 lunch and go sit in the sun and enjoy.

It is a pretty bold claim to make that someplace has the best coffee in Seattle, but this place will live up to those words. I live across town and will drive out of my way to get a cup of joe here. I prefer to drink drip coffee, but most places in Seattle specialize in espresso drinks...needless to say the quality of their drip suffers. This place makes great drip and espresso drinks and offers a good variety of pastries and sandwiches, to round out a good breakfast or light lunch. There is also some nice art, from local artists, which rotates weekly.

This is a great new Thai place in Lake City. The food ranks with the best Thai in Seattle (that I've had). The prices are not too high, the Lunch menu is a pretty standard price (I think about $7). The menu has some items not usually seen on the typical Thai menu.
They've got a pretty good atmosphere going and a full bar, though I haven't been there in the evenings yet... (I've had delivery in the evenings though, and gone in for lunch a few times). I hope they don't fall into the new Trendy Thai Trap, trying to be too "hip", with bad techno, etc... but so far they haven't.

You probably want to know what the difference is between Eritrean and Ethiopian food. I, unfortunately lack the knowledge to discern the difference. But Hidmo is a fantastic place to eat. The server I've had every time I've been there (she may be the owner, I'm not sure) is incredibly warm and high-energy, and is very proud of the food. And it's true that the food is pretty much without fault- the injera is perfectly sour and spongy, and both the meat and vegetable dishes are memorable. Make sure you try the hot sauce they offer, it is very complex and impressive. If you like Ethiopian, try Hidmo. If you haven't tried much Ethiopian food, Hidmo would be a great place to dip your toe into East African cuisine. Also, it's a very good value.
