Breaking down on the 520 bridge has been a nightmare of mine since moving to Seattle 4 years ago. This was exacerbated by the fact that the little old front-while-drive Subaru Loyale (best car ever!) I was driving became more and more eccentric as each day passed - that's an odd noise, I'm sure it's nothing; why don't the seat belts work anymore? that squeaking is starting to draw mean looks from surrounding drivers on cell phones... Anyway, as I drove the car into the ground, I decided to get AAA since it was cheaper than fixing the car. Lo and behold I did in fact breakdown on 520, shortly there after, although I luckily wasn't on the bridge. I was "blocking" though, so the woman on the phone was nice enough to call for expedited service. The tow truck came pretty quickly and the guy was super nice. Yay AAA! I also used them to jump the car a few times, and I never worry about running out of gas, because I can just call AAA. I also recently renewed my membership, and just ordered a whole bunch of free maps and camping site guides. Good deal! Although, I will say that if you do some research you can save $10 on the membership. For example, if it's a "gift" you can save $10, and it's cheaper to add another person if you are a first time subscriber, etc.

You might also look in Brentwood (take Sunset Blvd. to Westwood) or Santa Monica (take Wilshire Blvd. to Westwood) or Century City (take Little Santa Monica Blvd. to Westwood). Many hotels offer pacakges that include tickets to The Getty Museum, for example. If you are a member of AAA Washington, they would be a great resource. If you are not a member, I would consider it. I have carried a AAA membership card longer than I have carried my social security card. For reasons that I cannot begin to explain my dad signed me up on his AAA membership the year after I was born! I always check with them if I have a hard-to-solve travel problem. AAA can not only help you find the budget motel of your dreams, AAA reps have screened hundreds of properties (some of which you might be interested) for cleanliness and safety (among other criteria) and negotiated discounts for members. Additionally AAA members can request maps of the area, Trip Tiks (a specially created map of particular routes) and coupon books FOR FREE. And that is just the travel service.
