I am puzzled by the bad reviews as this place has been better all the way around than any other places I've gone (Umi, Wasabi Bistro, I Love Sushi). I've never had slow service and one thing I LOVE about this place is that they ALWAYS have items that other places only get occasionally or run out of (certain types of tuna like Toro, etc). The quality is top notch! It is inexpensive compared with over-rated places like Umi (talk about BAD service), and the rolls are done RIGHT...rolled like they do in Japan...narrow and long so they are bite size and don't fall apart. I'm guessing some of the reviewers on here either work at other competing sushi places or they have never experienced REAL sushi like you get in Japan. I have many years of experience dining on sushi and this place is my favorite! BTW...if you just want to enjoy some DJ music, have a drink and maybe a roll or two, the bar is fun on weekends.
Pros: Rolls are rolled long and bite size so don't fall apart
Cons: Sometimes crowded

I read a few bad reviews before I went but since I work in the industry, I know that only bitter people actually take the time to write nasty reviews... not the case. This place will truly ruin your night!!!
Pros: good location

Nijo has a great enviroment with welcoming wait staff, I have my favorite and you will too. The indoor decor is great for a date or a business meeting, always clean with a modern feel to the interior finishes. Outside sitting is in an alley, not the greatest setting although they have made up for it with a water feature and other planters. The sushi cuts are adequate and the chosen chef items are usually a good pick. Great cooked menu items for those not into sushi. Happy hour is awesome with great apps and drink specials and an awesome selection of sake's. Haven't been there yet? You need to check it out, great place in pioneer square/western ave area.

Waited 10 minutes to have our order taken, then waited another 40 minutes to ask how much longer it will be, to find out it had been sitting in the Kitchen we were do back to Work so asked to have it Boxed up, 10 minutes later NO Boxed Lunch. As we were sitting waiting for our Lunch we notices SIX orders sitting at the Counter and after numerous walks around the Orders FINALLY a Waitress comes and takes them to a Table. I saw one Customer come and Sit down and left after waiting 5 Miuntes to get Served. Not a recommended Place for Lunch Hours. Very Slow and dissappointing SERVICE!
Pros: Location
Cons: Slow Service

I walk by Nijo everyday on my way to work -- it looks great from the outside -- and finally thought I'd give it a try for lunch. I even waited until past 1pm to avoid any possible lunch rush. There were probably six people in the entire restaurant when I was there. Even with such low numbers, I probably sat in my chair for a good ten or fifteen mintues before a server finally made it to me. I had a bento box with sashimi and kalbi beef. The dollop of wasabi was all dried out -- it looked like green plahdoh, actually. Not good. The maguro didn't look fresh, and the salad in my bento was absolutely drenched in dressing. The best was that I overheard the couple nearest me say while paying that they didn't want to pay for the tea they ordered because they never got it. I had just ordered tea as well (from the same server), and you would think their complaint would pretty much guarantee that my tea would actually arrive. Nope. Never got it, and I couldn't remind the server because throughout my meal she never came back to check on me -- there were no servers in the dining area, period. I guess I could've stood up and gone into the back of the restaurant to look for someone, but I can't say I wanted tea that badly. There is nothing here -- food, atmosphere, service -- that would possibly bring me back. It's worth a little bit longer walk from downtown to hike down to the ID....
Pros: um, can't think of any
Cons: absent and forgetful service, mediocre japanese food (at best)

they need more sushi chefs like other places. the place is only romantic when its not happy hours. I've been there about 3 times. I usually give more than one chance to a place before i decide whether the place is worthy of going again. Two of the three times, I went there, I would see fruit flies flying around. maybe meaning that they don't keep stuff fresh? poor cleaning perhaps? Its quite bothersome to have fruit flies flying around while you're eating a nice meal. I would suggest trying out umi sake house instead. they have a much cleaner place. ambience was a little better for me. maybe try it once. you might like it, I am a bit hesistant in going to Nijos again. I agree with the last review that the service is very slow overall as well as inconsistant quality of food. Like the other reviewer, I also went on a thursday evening, and the quality of the wasn't that great. Maybe its the chef? I would highly suggest Umi sake house and for traditional sushi, go to Shiros. This place is a tough call.
Pros: happy hour maybe?
Cons: slow service

i agree. with the other reviewers and the slow service. I always see some of the sushi chefs messing around and wasting time when they could be working faster in making better sushi. there were two sushi chefs that were messing around with towels when they should be making sushi. service is really slow. I highly suggest going somewhere else for sushi. quality of food is inconsistent. I have only been there a couple of times but there was one chef that made better quality rolls on the tuesday i went. I went for dinner on a thursday evening a second time and the quality of the sushi rolls was not good. Usually happy hour quality is understandable but it was not even happy hour
Pros: none
Cons: slow service

I visited NIJO sushi while walking in the downtown area of Seattle on a sunny afternoon. I happened to be blessed that day and walked into one of the finest sushi restaurants. Fortunately, I was able to try a lot of different nijiri and sashimi sushi since it was happy hour. At NIJO happy hour is not only nicely priced drinks but also feature very inexpensive sushi too. Nestled in between a couple of older buildings, NIJO has a nice patio which is relaxing on a sunny day...there is very little traffic too.
Overall my experience was excellent since the drinks and sushi cost me less than 30.00 and I was very full as I sampled most of the sushi available. The service was a little slow since I was outside in a corner, fairly inaccessible to frequent visits from the waiter.
Definitely try NIJO for happy hour... its a lot of fun and well priced.
Pros: Fresh Sushi, Great Selection, Great Price and Fun atmosphere
Cons: Happy Hour is not that long, Slower service
