Dismal service. Came out, spent five minutes before trying up sell me to a new furnace. Then quoted me $500 for a $75 controller board (plus the original $100 service visit). found 50+ online retailers selling the part for an avg. cost of $75. Install time would be about 1 hr. So they are either ripping you on labor cost or getting hundred's of dollars on markup. Stay away.

IF YOU VALUE SERVICE AND DON'T WANT TO FEEL THAT YOU'RE GETTING NICKLED AND DIMED, I RECOMMEND YOU TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. BNG IS GETTING ONE STAR ONLY BECAUSE I CAN'T GIVE THEM ZERO.
I've never written an online review before but was compelled to do so after getting a call from their service manager telling me that they are no longer interested in me as a customer.
Before thinking about calling BNG, I encourage any reader to consider the following:
-It's ironic that they compare their service to that of Nordstrom on their website. My wife works at Nordstrom and it's a laughable assertion. NO ONE at Nordstrom would ever allow an issue to escalate to this level, let alone tell a customer that their business isn't valued.
-on BNG's website, they urge their customers to check out various sites to understand their service against that of their peers. interestingly, their negative scores are in the area of service and price transparency(or lack thereof).
-lastly, and the shame in my view, is that their ownership(specifically you Kathleen) doesn't feel they have any part in trying to solve a customer's issue. My initial experience with them two years ago was terrible for the same reasons. As a Ballard resident, I wanted to keep my business in my community and hoped that my initial experience was an aberration. In making my second appointment, and in fairness to everyone, I reminded them of my original experience. Unfortunately, they didn't pass this piece of information onto the service tech. When he tried to pull the same thing, I shared all of this with him and was understandably upset. in some ways, it was like a lamb to a slaughter.
Too bad for them. After two tries to do the right thing, I'm forced to take my business elsewhere.

Ballard Natural Gas Service just completed an oil-to-gas conversion at my home, including gas hookup and new piping, new furnace (with new thermostat), new hot water heater, hookup of new gas stove, and piping to dryer area (yes, thanks to years of deferred maintenance I had to replace not one, not two, but three major appliances at once! but the dryer can wait...). They were prompt and thorough in their response to my request for a bid (in contrast to some who conducted a "drive-by" bid process rather than actually look at my house and its size and existing features, others whose bid did not explain what that $3000-4000 number was for beyond "install furnace," and still others who never even responded to my phone calls). They thoroughly answered my many questions at the time and subsequently. They scheduled the work as quickly as possible given the vagaries of PSE's schedule for installing the meter. The technician who did the work came on time, worked efficiently and neatly, and got the job done in two days. A minor item he forgot to finish was taken care of within 24 hours of my call to the office. They weren't the cheapest but they were well within the range of the other bids and I felt a lot of confidence before, during, and after the job that the work was being done properly--very important to a newbie gas customer!
A couple of minor quibbles--I felt the technician--or someone--should have taken more time to explain the equipment before he left (for example, I had to figure out on my own how to program the thermostat and I can only hope I've ascertained how to change the furnace filter when the time comes), and the final furnace "product," combining as it does some old and new ductwork and piping of various colors, sizes, and materials, is not pretty, .But it all works and I feel confident it was done right. I would definitely choose this company again.

Used Ballard Natural Gas Service because they were rated highly in Checkbook. They were prompt, but asked about their rates and nothing was said about a minimum service charge of $47. + tax. The service person was not very helpful and did not offer to clean up a mess or take away the old sump pump. The sump pump was way over priced and I had to ask to keep the warranty. Don't think I will use again.

Ballard Natural Gas did work on our furnace ducts and installed a gas fireplace. Their bid was very competitive and they performed both projects promptly. We had a bit of trouble getting the heating ductwork properly balanced but Ballard Natural Gas sent a guy out twice to work on it and installed a fan without charging us any extra. It was a tricky situation and they made it work as well as the situation allowed.

A great service. I was happy with their prompt arrival, inexpensive prices and extremely helpful service men. The group was very reasonable, and helped me with all the questions I had. The booking time wasn’t too bad either. I was able to book a day or two out, without too much trouble, and at times that worked for me!! I love it.
