I'm an avid runner, and finally checked out Super Jock 'n Jill from a friend's recommendation. In the past, I just bought whatever was on sale at Big 5, but the service, fitting, and advice you get from the employees is unmatched. Every employee seems to be very knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about running.
I bought a pair, took it home, and was unhappy after a few runs. With NO QUESTIONS ASKED, they apologized and allowed me to fit a new pair, which I am very happy with. ...and they're very reasonably priced. Sure, you might find the same pair of shoes online for $15-20 cheaper, but the service you get here is incredible. Most pairs I tried on were right around $100.

I've been a runner for years, and as someone who also likes to get a deal, I've been buying discount running shoes for just as many years. I was recently convinced to try out Super Jock n' Jill, however, and I don't think I'll ever go back to discount shoes.
A trainer recently told me that the material in running shoes slowly degrades, so that even if you don't use them, they aren't nearly as effective after about 8 months. So buying from those discount stores, where shoes have been sitting in a warehouse (or other stores) for months, sort of defeats the point.
At Super Jock n' Jill, the salespeople always take your foot size and shape, your arch style, AND your running style into consideration before selling you a shoe. And they aren't selling you just what is most expensive. Most of thier shoes are around $90, so they are in it to sell you whatever shoe works best. I feel so confident now knowing that not only are my shoes fitted for comfort and performance, but to prevent injury.
Downfalls: not as cheap as the discount competitors, and not a huge amount of locations. Upswings: personal attention, quality merchandise, and discounts for trainiers and coaches.

If you are shopping for the right athletic shoe, make sure you stop by Super Jock 'N Jill ( http://www.superjocknjill.com ). The staff are super knowledgeable about their shoes (and the running scene) and make sure that you walk out the door with the right shoe. When I came in, they asked for the type of activity that I do, looked for pronation, asked about the arch support, heel support, toe box. They brought out at least 25 pairs of shoes and asked me to go outside and road test it. I was there for at least an hour but I discovered a new brand of shoes that I absolutely love. Great job guys!
Super Jock 'n Jill sponsors several running events throughout the city/year. At the St. Patrick's Run, Walk, Crawl, they usually give out coupons along with T shirt when you register.

Definitely by far the best running store I've been to. Friendly and knowledgable staff that is truly focused on getting you in the right shoe. They not only let you "road test" the shoes by running outside, but they also will take them back if you aren't satisfied. I brought my mother there and she decided after running in her shoes for 2 days that they were too narrow, so they gave her a full refund - no hassles.

Going to Jock N Jill is a good first step since they do a good job of checking whether or not you pronate or have any other quirk in your running step. I wouldn't focus so much on brand as I would getting a good fit. If you go down to the shop it would be a good idea to also wear the shoes that you may have been using up till now so they can see the wear on the sold or shape of the shoe.
I've been getting my running shoes at Jock N Jill for about 15 years and have been happy with the results. Yeah, the prices are higher than Big 5 but the quality is definitely there. My sad day with their store was when they stopped carrying volleyball shoes because they carried the best ones in town up till then.

There's a reason that this store has been around for a long time. They have a great selection of shoes, and their fittings are probably the best in town. They don't want you to leave thinking "well, maybe this fits" like you might at a store without a fitter. Nordstrom could take some lessons from these folks. They will fit even the mose stubborn feet and have a WIDE selection of WIDE widths and lengths, or if they don't have it in stock, they will order it for you.

Super Jock & Jill does one of the best shoe fittings I have ever had. I spent many years getting super intense pointe shoe fittings for dance. They could take up to an hour or more to finish. This is the closest and most detailed fitting I have had since. They don't believe in measuring your feet. They believe in well fit shoes. You have to be prepared to spend some time trying on a lot of pairs. They will study your stance, how you walk, and which shoe works best. They analyze every shoe you try and even seek out opinions from other employees. It is definitely a science. Because of many years of abuse dancing and funny feet to begin with, I was shocked to find my best shoe was a Brooks Adrenaline™ GTS 6 in a men's 7 1/2 and but...am totally in love with them. They do push insoles and if you have some, bring them with you.

I'm not the athletic type at all, but when I was training for a triathlon I went to SJnJ and they were really great. Low frills but great shoes. They asked the right questions and every pair I have bought have been PROBLEM FREE (not even when I was wearing them in) and they have been a comparable price. They have different brands too so they're not trying to sell you by brand, but by your running style (pronate, supinate, etc). And they have been consistent, which is why they are still in business.

These guys know feet, running, and shoes. Enough said. I have tried everyone and they not only fit you without selling you garbage you don't need, but they actually stand by their shoes. Run around the lake a few times and decide the shoes don't work- bring them back. They don't hassle you.

Could an athletic, running-based shoe store be any more perfect on the outskirts of Greenlake? I cannot think of a more appropriate location. I suspect business is booming! The staff were very supportive when I visited the store for the first time. I knew nothing about running shoes and came out with not only the supposively best pair but also a pretty good knowledge of brands and sizing in general. They were very informative, to say the least. My shoes fit perfectly and have kept me going for about 6 months now... pretty soon it'll be time to pay another visit to Super Jock n' Jill. Hopefully the next pair will be as perfect as the first ones.
