Many of the items at this store are a little expensive for the quality. I must say the jacket I purchased from there tore very easily. It did the 1st time I went snowboarding with it. The store offers a large selection, and the staff are knowledgable. However I would disagree that the quality of their goods matches their prices.

This is one of Seattle's best held secrets. I frequent OE a lot because their prices always beat the competitors. If you're a member they price match (it's something like $19 a year I think) and give you an extra 5% off. It's got a lot of great stuff, they're good with special orders or requests, and I like chatting with the guys at the fishing counter on lunch breaks. I'd recommend this place to every type of shopper.

More
Pro Mountain Sports is a specialty backpacking and mountaineering shop that sells carefully selected gear. The focus is on light weight gear that perfectly suits the needs you have. The shop staff are fantastic and very knowledgeable. If you are unsure of what is best, just go in and chat for a while. For the serious climber, this is the place to come to lighten your load. The shop is located near the UW and is open on Saturdays, which makes it all too convienient.

There is no better flyfishing shop east of Livingston, Montana, than Kauffmanns' Streamborn in Seattle. The exterior is unimposing and can be hard to find, but once you step through the door you can't help but feel the competence of the place.
Two large tables hold high-end rods from all the big names in graphite and dominate the center of the store. Accessories and books consume the edges of the room, but you can't help but be drawn to the counter that runs the entire length of the store. It's full of drawers and drawers of flies.
In face, there are so many flies you'll have trouble figuring out what to buy if you don't let the staff help you. Strike up a conversation and they'll make sure you wind up in the best spot... that they're willing to reveal. Go back a second or third time to build a relationship and they'll start sharing their secrets.

What remains of the K-Mart Empire is respectable, especially after the dual onslaught of Wal-Mart and Fred Meyer throughout Greater Seattle. The only suitable competition nearby is a Costco but with its Wal-Mart-like parking, thousands of frantic shoppers, bulk purchase requirements, and ridiculous membership fee, K-Mart is comparably a pleasure cruise. The clientele at this K-Mart locale is relatively nil so youll be in and out in a jiffy, even though there are moments when the checkers are few and far between. FYI, I have never seen so many people return or exchange items more than I have seen at this K-Mart. It would be nice to have a Fred Meyer-like store in this area, and there isnt one of those till you hit Lynnwood. For one-stop shopping, K-Mart on Aurora isnt the answer, but there is always ample parking, as long as you dont mind driving down and back up their ski slope-like asphalt pathway.

Moss Bay offers a variety of camps for kids (and adults). Located on Lake Union, friendly college-age summer staff will interact well with kids and give them some basic kayaking/rowing/sailing skills. We chose an overnight 'adventure camp' on San Juan Island and it was mildly misrepresented. Nonetheless, a fun experience for our child. Check website for detailed information of programs.

My wife and I have been changing/upgrading our fitness equipment. We started going to Busy Body, and I'd recommend it for anyone who wants quality equipment and a knowledgeable staff.
Busy Body carries treadmills, elipticals, and some combo weight machines (those all-in-one types of machines). The selection is good, and the pricing seems on par with other places. Their selection of pilates/core equipment such as bands, balls, basoos, and such is good. Their free weight selection is - pardon the pun - a little light.
What really makes them stand out is the knowledge of the staff. My wife went in a month ago and explained what she liked/didn't like to do and what she wanted to get out of a program. The staff person gave her an honest opinion on workouts and sold her just the right amount of equipment. He even gave her some pointers to pass along for me regarding how to improve my arobic activity in light of a back injury.
I went in today to look for free weights. Discussed with the staff person (Gary in the Seattle store) what I wanted to accomplish, my current lifting range, existing equipment, and space constraints. His first question was whether I had any injuries, after which he went on to discuss pros and cons of a selection of standard dumbbells and one of those adjustable weight dumbbells. He also told me that I had 30 days to try my purchase and if I didn't like it just bring it back and we'll try something else.
The staff makes the difference. Much better than trying to figure it out for yourself at GI Joe's or Big 5 or the like.

I was lookin for a good pair of snowboarding gloves and visited Outdoor Research. I must say that I was quite impressed by the friendly staff and vast selection of products. I also went at the time of their yearly sale and I was blown away by very good prices. When I need to get more gear, I will for sure stop by outdoor research.

They do a great job and are fairly inexpensive. They'll also teach you how to do your own sharpening maintenance. They are in Pike Place Market on the east side of the main drag.
