I bought my first pair of Paul Green shoes here when they were having one of their fabulous sales & now I am totally addicted (to both Paul Green shoes & J. Gilbert). The shoes are very well made and are extremely comfortable--even the heels! I have never, ever received a blister while wearing any Paul Green shoes. Also, I always get compliments on these shoes, which is a bonus!
While Nordstrom may carry Paul Green, they never go on sale there & don't have nearly as good of a selection. In order to find more choices, you'd have to go to Munich. I must confess I did cheat on J. Gilbert & buy a few more pairs there, but I just couldn't resist. :)
I haven't tried the Taryn Rose, Thierry Rabotin, or Donald J. Pliner shoes since I seem to be stuck in a Paul Green rut, but I did buy a wonderful pair of Blundstone boots there for those wet Seattle days when I can't wear my Paul Green shoes.
Also, if you sign up for their email list, you can be kept abreast of events, sales, etc.

yesterday i visited jgilbert and it reminded me of why it is my go-to place for beautiful shoes. i visited nordstrom earlier and found nothing - every shoe was a very high heel or super pointy or fashion victimy in some other respect. besides the place was a madhouse. so i went to jgilbert on first (cattycorner from patagonia) and found the perfect pair in 5 minutes. granted, they're expensive and you can't return them. but the shoes are carefully selected and beautiful. they don't follow the usual trends but they have style. the person who helped me (thank you shannon moon) was lovely. also, i bought boots there several years ago (also expensive and unreturnable) but now i wear them every day. if you look at cost per wear, they're a bargain. i say, fewer better things. if you feel the same way, go to jgilbert.

This joint was the source of my first pair of Donald Pliner loafers, and I'll never forget them for it. If you're a bigger shoe junkie than Carrie Bradshaw, this storefront has got your next pair. Trendy Taryn Rose, Pumas, or Thierry Rabotins, and a ton of great shoes for guys and gals. If you can hold out for the bi-annual sales, you'll score a great deal.
