Weaving Works has a wide variety of yarns from all over the world, and - given the name - has a variety of looms and thread and other accessories for weaving as well. They have an extensive library of crochet/knitting/weaving and other yarn/thread craft books, and a big table at which to sit down and peruse them. The staff are friendly and helpful too. There is a parking lot next door and it is close to many bus lines too.

Weaving Works is a fairly typical LYS (Local Yarn Store, in knitting parlance). They carry a nice range of yarns, including Brown Sheep, Cascade, Rowan, Annie Blatt, and others. They have a selection of needles and accessories as most yarn shops do, and offer a number of classes. All in all a nice yarn store, but nothing really extraordinary or spectacular.

This shop in the U District is located a block from "the Ave" and has a parking lot just North of the store. Inside they boast a large assortment of yarn, from Peace Fleece to Rowan, and many other brands. They also have knitting and crochet pattern galore, from many books, magazines, and pattern books.
This store also stocks dyes, spinning wheels and drop spindles, carders, and obviously, weaving supplies.
The service leans toward leave-you-be-and-let-you-shop, but they are helpful if you just ask.

I am absolutely, positively, 100% in love with Weaving Works. The whole store is a sensory delight - yarn and fiber of every color, texture, persuasion...wall after wall, bin after bin, delight after delight. They have an extensive collection - fancy yarns, simple yarns, local yarns, Japanese yarns, British yarns; books beyond belief, knitting needles, spinning supplies...Their prices are incredible (very fair, frequently the lowest in town). It is no wonder this yarn store has been in business for 31 years - they have clearly figured out what knitters want.

I discovered the Weaving Works shortly after moving to Seattle and it's stil my favorite knitting shop. (They also carry supplies for weavers, crocheters and tatters). I've been impressed by the helpful and friendly staff, the beautiful knitted things displayed, and especially by the selection of quality yarns. They carry a wide selection of premium brands and, in the back, large spools for weaving, knitting machines and budget knitters (with skein winders if you want less than an entire spool). It's a great place to browse and look for ideas. The prices are in line with quality yarn shops -- no great bargains -- but the quality and selection make it worthwhile.
