I have visited this store in many different contexts - from starting projects, to getting help, to getting my kids going with new projects. At every instance we have found pretty yarns in many different price ranges and received friendly, smart help from the staff.
While the shop is smaller than some I enjoy the cozy atmosphere. If you are inclined toward claustrophobia go on a weekday and you will have more room and the staff to yourself!

This shop in the U District is located a block from "the Ave" and has a parking lot just North of the store. Inside they boast a large assortment of yarn, from Peace Fleece to Rowan, and many other brands. They also have knitting and crochet pattern galore, from many books, magazines, and pattern books.
This store also stocks dyes, spinning wheels and drop spindles, carders, and obviously, weaving supplies.
The service leans toward leave-you-be-and-let-you-shop, but they are helpful if you just ask.

This store has an vast selection of fine cotton fabrics - primarily meant for quilting. You can do some serious damage to the bank account in here. The prices are at the top end for cottons - $8-9 a yard or so. They have both colors groupings and line groupings - so it is quite easy to pull together coordinates for a project. They also carry a vast line of quilting books and a decent notions section. They offer classes, whcih I haven't not had the pleasure of taking. They offer some lovely Japanese fabrics and other variety fabrics. I've never been able to leave empty handed!

i stumbled into So Much Yarn because i could not tear my eyes away from the beautiful pieces they had hanging in the window, and i continue to go back on an all-too-regular basis! they have beautiful and well-priced yarns, all of the supplies you'll ever need, and, most important, a helpful and courteous staff who are great teachers. my personal favorite teacher is logan, but they are all terrific and what they do.
they have classes, private lessons and group lessons and whenever you take a lesson you get a 10% discount on anything you purchase that day.
this place will be the end of me, and i love it!

You'd find knitting and sewing notions: Capitol Hill. Stitches carries fun fabrics (fun designs, bright colors, tempting textures), a decent selection of yarns, and many accessories. They also carry "Sublime Stitchery" cross-stitch patterns (which must be seen to be believed - fantastic, creative) and offer crochet, knitting, and sewing classes. A small but bright shop, Stitches is welcoming and full of things to discover.

This is an awesome local yarn store that is absolutely worth the trip. The store is stock full of yarn and the best part is that nearly half of the store is on sale. The diversity of the yarn is incredible. Also the owner, Sue Fulay, is so friendly and willing to help you find the right yarn for your project. She will also help you wind your purchases in store for free. I will be returning to this store in the future - but for those who are not local to Seattle, you can order from her online at www.littleknits.com
