We were very pleasantly surprised to find their food was so great. In addition, they carry a good selection of German bottled beers, their bread pudding is amazing, the owner is very nice, and they rock the house with blues bands (good names) Saturday nights.

great harvest bread co. has something for everyone- they have many samples of every bread they are currently selling, their breads and pastries are always fresh-baked, and they are just plain yummy. their classic honey wheat bread is my personal favorite, and they always seem to have that. on other visits i have sampled all sorts of different breads, of which my favorite was a cinnamon roll bread, which was basically a slice of a loaf-shaped cinnamon roll. for your kids, they have free, scrumptious, kid-friendly breadsticks, frequent coloring "contests" where your kid can color a picture and then get a giant cookie when they turn in their artwork, which then gets posted in the bakery, and a basket of books and toys. If you are in the area, i suggest stopping by! they also sell some granolas and such, and i think maybe some jams and jellies.

If you’re tired of eating veggies or eating Chinese/Thai and you just want some good ol ’ American type fast food this is the place. I have been dreaming of having vegetarian food this good. I just recently went back to being a vegetarian and I have had some REALLY bad tofu experiences. I have to say this stuff tastes like the real thing if not better. I took two meat eaters to the U-district shop and I was very VERY apprehensive about the food. One taste and it totally changed my mind and my friends. We all tried something different; the tofustrami sandwich with potato salad and coleslaw on it was fantastic! My friend ordered the Fremont Philly steak sub with seitan . OMG it was to die for and I hate vegan cheese and usually steer clear of it but this was finger lickin ’ good.
This place is a must for any vegetarian or vegan. If you want lots of veggies or another salad go try the six hundred other vegetarian places…this place is good ol ’ soul food and deserts. I cant wait to go back and try more!
Oh yeah, and chocolate cake slices as big as your head!

I love this store. They're fast, nice, and reasonably priced. The meat is a much better quality than Subway or Quizno's and their swiss cheese is actually real swiss.

More
Okay, maybe that's a weird beginning to a review of a restaurant, but they have the yummiest home-made yogurt (active culture!). And they give it to you for free.
So while it's a typical Vietnamese restaurant in the area (minimal furnishing, fast, cheap, back-to-basics, like many others in U-District), we go there for yogurt.
Their food is decent and cheap. Their pho and rice vermicelli dishes are always comforting and fresh, and the rice dishes are also nice comfort foods (fried egg on top is a nice touch) - and at the price tag of about $5-6 per meal (the sandwiches are like $2 but they are not very exciting - it's mostly just the meat of your choice and cilantro in a baguette), you can't help but to feel like the ladies there are your surrogate moms away from home.
The food may not be the best in town while they are consistent and yummy for the price, but then, they appear with a little Styrofoam cup of home-made yogurt, complimentary, at the end of your meal. I make yogurt at home, but somehow theirs is smoother. Who doesn't love a free dessert? And it's even healthy!
So if you can't convince your significant other to go out some night, just say "it's for your intestinal health http://www.healthcastle.com/yogurt-probiotics-benefits.shtml , honey". You'll be glad you didn't settle for a store-bought Dannon.
