Going into a Costco allows you to get your cultural bearings in a new city. Like the Barnes and Noble theory (the biggest sections in the store are representative of what the city stands for), you can always feel properly oriented after a visit to a Costco. For instance, the Seattle area Costco's are full of wine and fresh seafood. Costco's in DC sometimes have a more unusual food selection to tempt the international palate and Boston's Costco has an alcohol section that is completely closed off from the rest of the store. The Costco in Beijing is full of many American staples (right down to the pizza/hot dog stand) but also carries a wide selection of dried foods, and locust bean pastries. Wherever you are, Costco always has a good deal on offer. While you do have to pay a fee to shop at Costco, it is worth it-especially if you have a family or a business. Everything from computers to tires to wine is on sale here. Surprisingly, for a warehouse, store customer service is helpful and friendly.
