@ Either location: Bring your laptop (preferably a MacBook) after 5:00 or feel quite out of place! Zoka's is packed with students almost EVERY night and bikers & soccer moms in the morning. Excellent atmosphere, FANTASTIC coffee, mediocre service (maybe it's due to the lack of tips @ night!). Their pastries are incredible. ...Oh, and avoid UW, SU, or SPU's finals weeks AT ALL COSTS!

On a normal work day I always frequent Starbucks. But on the weekends, one of my favorite place to go to is Zoka. It is located in Green Lake, a bit hard to find but definitely worth the search. I love how they roast their own coffee and their pastry is also really good. I used to study here all the time. Unlike Starbucks, who charges for Internet service, Zoka provides free Internet! The only thing is it's really crowded when school is in session, so you might have to wait for tables. Otherwise, it's definitely worth a visit. I also like their coffee too. It doesn't have that burnt taste to it like Starbucks does. I'm not saying I don't like Starbucks, I love the experience and the customer service, I just prefer something different on the weekends. Highly recommended!

One of the coffee shops to hang out in around the UW is Zoka. It's got a pretty cool vibe, good coffee, good food, and free wireless. They recently expanded their space and added a second coffee bar and sitting area with a fireplace.
While it's often crowded with UW students, particularly at night, it doesn't have that same overfull and loud feeling of the U Village Starbucks. Instead the crowd is mellower and a little more friendly - need a seat at the big table but don't know anyone? No sweat just pull up a chair, say hi and you're in.

The nice thing about Zoka is that there is plenty of room to hang out. Also, the coffee is pretty good and I wouldn't say that about just any place. On the other hand, I've never had to wait so long for a coffee drink to be prepared. I've only been there twice so maybe it was bad luck, but jeez, it's just a latte.

My husband and I have fallen in love with this little coffee shop chain from Seattle. On our most recent visit to Seattle, we went here twice and now we order all of their coffee through mail order on their website. Shipping is fairly reasonable. Our relatives that live in Seattle said that this is the anti-Starbucks coffee shop. They pride themselves on having top of the line baristas, free Wi-Fi in the store, and a quaint atmosphere. This is a definite must-stop next time you are in Seattle.

Zoka is one of my favorite hang out places. Away from work and home. One in greenlake and one in U district. The greenlake location in set in a neighborhood with outside seating under trees. The coffee is great and the service is friendly. Skilled baristas who can pull their shots well. Internet is also provided wirelessly for free. The seating is ok, it gets busy at times and there are limited soft chairs. Its mostly designed for workign I suppose with big tables to sit at. the U district loation expanded and offers a fireplace to sit by.
