I used to come here for cheap lunch. Stomach problems sometimes ensued. Last time I came here I saw the bussing person drop the CHOPSTICKS on the DIRTY FLOOR then pick them up and stick them in with the "clean" ones that are on each table. After seeing this I got so nauseated I had to leave. I will NOT be back. Just check their County Inspections records and you won't want to come here either:

(erase the spaces in the address first)
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Don't risk your life

I took my Mom here & was really embarrassed by not only the service, but also the quality of the food. To start with, our waiter was really impatient & got our order wrong. Once we received the correct food, the broth was really tasteless. Not a good experience for either my Mom & I.
Also, the bathrooms were very dirty, they didn't have any toilet paper or soap. Good thing I had extra Kleenex & Wet Ones! When I told the cashier about it, they couldn't care less. I definitely will not be back.
I should have taken her to Pho Bac & I eventually did so that she could try the real deal. Much, much better (even if they don't serve a free creme puff).

How many ways can you make Pho? The answer is... very many. Than Brothers isn't gourmet Pho with exactly created broth. The broth can be a little bland sometimes, a little heavy on the salt sometimes. However, they give you a great variety of combinations of Beef to choose from - brisket, flank, tripe, tendon, round steak and meatballs. They also serve a Chicken Pho. The servings come in 4 different sizes - small / medium / large / x-large and you can also get extra noodles, meat or meatballs.
If you want a fast, cheap, hot meal in the Ballard area, it's hard to beat this. You also get a little cream-puff for desert.
Try the Vietnamese coffee. Which is very strong and very sweet (served with condensed milk)

It's true - if you want fresh ingredients and cheap pho - don't go anywhere else! It's very consistent - their iced coffees are great to have on hand when you accidentally put in too much chili sauce! You have to have cash, but it's cheap - $10. WILL buy you a great, healthy meal. The only downfall is not uncommon in pho restaurants - the atmosphere is kind of closed in and stuffy. But, it's still worth it!

It's quick, tasty/spicy as can be with the added chile sauces and right on the pocketbook.

If you ever want to try Vietnamese food, then pho should be your first option! A great local spot to get quality pho at a great price is at the Pho Than Brothers on Market St. I heard that there are a few other locations, but this is the only one I've tried. The broth is rich in flavor, not too oily, and the beef was lean as I requested. It's prompt service, although it can definitely get busy at times. Each bowl of pho comes with the usual veggie condiments such as mint, basil, bean sprouts, etc. Add some lime and chili paste to step the flavor up one more notch. If you want a caffeine pick me up, order an iced Vietnamese coffee called cafe sua da...it's soooo good!

Even a medium bowl is extremely filling, and very cheap at under $5.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED on a cold, winter day! :)

I've eaten here twice this week. It is perfect for the broke college students on a budget. It fills me up for a mere 4.97 after tax. Also tastes great and very uplifting on a cold day (esp with the cold Seattle weather these days). Also can't beat a free cream puff with each person!! I think I'll get some tonight actually. A+

Pho at Than Brothers is a welcome addition to the Ballard budget dining option. The soup is delicious and filling. The ingredients are fresh. The bonus cream puff dessert will guarantee you will return again - great marketing. Service is swift and the restaurant is clean and bright.
The thing the other reviewers fail to mention is that the Market store plays lovely soothing music to make dining a pleasant experience. Sometimes it is classical and other times it is Vietnamese popular music, but never anything jarring or dissonant. I also enjoy the people watching out the large windows.
