I had the salmon sampler, which was a nice way to taste the different flavours of the different types of salmon. Our seat was on the edge of the restaurant looking over the water. The food is a bit pricey, but it's a nice place to bring a date (if you sit by the window) or perhaps out-of-town guests to give them a taste (and view) of Seattle.

Dont be mistaken for Ivars as those fast food seafood restaurants Ivars by lake union is awesome for happy hour i believe its from 3-6 but i could be wrong usually it gets packed on the weekend as it is near the UofW were employee or student head there for happy hour.
For the price your paying i dont think your paying for half portions. The fish and chips are exceptional. I would have to put this Ivars as the flagship restaurant in seattle if you havent been here i definitely recommend this place not to mention they also offer great cocktails with happy hour prices.
The atmosphere is fun and more of a younger college crowd.
Wait staff was always there to make sure we were ok. especially with the drinks.

I've always loved Ivar’s Salmon house and thought it was a great place to bring out of town guests but my last few dinner experiences, both at the Lake Union location and downtown water front, haven't been so good. We've had a waiter with BO, a rude waitress and food that was prepared improperly and then it took forever to get the replacement dish. I am NOT a picky person but the service has really been below par. We do enjoy the brunch and go a couple times a year and visit the seafood bar often but if you are looking for a nice dinner, look somewhere else.

Definitely go to the bar after 9pm for some great food and drinks cheap! They have a fantastic after 9pm happy hour. The food is pretty good and if you go in the summer you can sit outside and enjoy Lake Union. Definitely a great hangout. Also a good place to take large groups. Unfortunately I've never eaten in the restaurant part, so I'm not sure how that stacks up.

I used to love going here, and judging from the crowds (and the reviews here) so did a lot of other people. So why haven't they made a move to rebuild the burned-out Salmon House?

Ivars is a wonderful Seattle tradition. At this location, you can either sit out on the pier with your cheap lunch or dinner of fish and chips and watch the boats or you can dine inside in the actual restaurant with beautiful views of the boats, water, and skyline. The food is amazing- from the fish and chips to the salmon, and there is always fabulous chowder on the menu. There are even options for those who do not care for seafood. Even if you don’t like seafood- come to Ivars for either type of meal and you will enjoy yourself.

Located on Lake Union, Ivar's has an amazing view of downtown. There is plenty of outdoor seating, which is perfect for summer time visits. Ivar’s Salmon house is also a an excellent place to bring out of town guests who are not accustom to Seattle.
I should also mention that the food is good. I have only order the Fish and Chips and the Clam Chowder. No need for me to try anything else, because this is what I come to Ivar's for.
The bar, The Whalemaker (ask the bar tender the origin of the name) has on of the best happy hour around.
I am also a fan of the decor. If you have time, walk around the restaurant for a while and check out the various Northwest artifacts and memorabilia.

Filled with Native American artifacts, including canoes hung from the ceiling, and overlooking Lake Union with a pretty view of the Space Needle, Ivar's Salmon House is a popular restaurant to treat out of towners to salmon prepared Northwest-style (that is, alderwood smoked). Other seafood and fish dishes are also available. Cornbread comes with the meal. Overall, a pleasant meal experience.

They have a menu of great food items that are all $2.95 and a monstrous deck right on the water. This place gets crowded very quickly though, so the coveted deck seats need to be claimed early. That is one reason this place gets "great" instead of "perfect". They also have good microbrews and wine for $2.95. It's a relatively diverse crowd and they do have a few large TV's if a Mariners game or something is on. From memory, the happy hour goes from 4:30 to 7, but I am not 100% sure of the exact hours.
After reading some other insightful reviews, I should probably mention this happy hour applies to the whalemaker bar, so it is not family friendly as a side note.
