My favorite restaurant in Seattle. Great steaks and great seafood too. Great service, great people, excellent food. I once wanted a Cesar salad and asked if I could have it with crab. "No problem" was the answer and the salad was amazing- completely smothered in crab and at no extra cost. Also made reservations for dinner with my wife on new years eve once and the hostess had made a mistake with our reservation- they asked us to have drinks and appetizers on them while we waited. We ended up just having multiple appetizers and cocktails for dinner and they picked up the tab. The real story here is that they were genuinely sorry for the mix up and did everything they could to make us happy.
In a world of non-existent customer service The Met stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Oh yea, and the food is great!

Everytime I plan to try somewhere else besides the Met, I am always left wishing I hadn't. Genuine, knowledgable servers of the highest class, the choicest cuts, an aged sommelier is always on hand, and an unstuffy high class vibe. Always breaks the bank, always worth it.
Pros: STEAKS AND SERVICE
Cons: prices :(

Without a doubt THE best steaks in the Northwest. Puts Mortons, Ruth's Chris, Daniels, etc. in a distant second place. Club-like setting in a former bank. Great servers. Reservations are essential. Most of the athletes in town & from visiting teams eat there. Very expensive but worth the bucks for special events and for taking visitors from out of town.
Pros: Valet parking at times, best & biggest steak meals in the Northwest
Cons: None

I travel to Seattle often and I've dined out a lot. It until recently that I tried the Met for the first time. It was amazing! I've been to the other steak houses in seattle (daniels, el gaucho, etc) and the Met surpased them all! The steak is unbelievable, and the service is the best I've ever experienced anywhere. The Met is the essential Seattle restaurant.

This place was amazing- wonderful food- honestly the best steak I have had in a long time. Better than El Gaucho for sure, the atmosphere and service are superior! Great wine list, awesome focus on local wines. Save up and take your date out to the Met- I had such a good time with my husband. Definitely worth it- you will have amazing leftovers too! Make reservations on Saturdays nights though, the place was lively and packed!
Pros: Great steak, wine, service
Cons: Can get loud

This place is sensational! They have the best steak I have ever tasted and there desserts are to die for! The bannanas foster is prepared right in front of your eyes! The whole experience is great right from when you walk in the door. You walk in tell them your name and they take you back into a beautiful resteruant and the service is great! The Spinach Salad is great! Very Family friendly and no dress code. This meaning some people dress very fancy and some people in jeans. Very open and Friendly. I would highly recommend this resteraunt weather you live in seattle or are visiting!
Pros: The best resteruant in seattle!! Plus they have valet service!
Cons: There are no cons!!

It has a great ambiance and food. The steak I thought was not as great as Ruth Chris's but maybe it's partially because I don't like peppercorns. The dessert especially the fresh New York Cheesecake with strawberries and their creme brulee is excellent! But it's hard to find parking.
PROS: good food
CONS: hard to find parking

I've dined at Daniels Broiler, Ruth Chris and now the Met. Though I absolutely love all three for their differences, the Met is the only location that provided a few small extras in the customer service side of things. I went to the Met for the first time last weekend (6/3/06) because I was taking my mom out for her 50th birthday. I made reservations ahead of time through their online system and requested a table away from the stairs (per a previous negative review) When we got there, it happened to be a prom night and so it was packed out. We arrived 5 minutes late and had to wait 10 minutes in the foyer. Great pictures to look at. We were seated in a cushy booth with curtains on the side. The server was a bit abrupt to my liking on a few interchanges, but he was quick and offered us everything. Food was AWESOME! My mom ordered lobster bisque which she loved. My sister order a spinach salad which she loved. The steaks were great too. We ordered a chef's special with ribs on top.... yummm My mom and I split and still couldn't finish everything with the brocoli we ordered on the side with it. My sister ordered prime rib and her date ordered a new york cut I believe. We all loved our meals. Two managers came over to greet us and our waiter came out with a creme brule for my mother with a candle in it. The only down side was that we were charged for the creme brule without our knowledge :-( ------------
Well I've seen the negative and positive Reviews for the Met and I think those that had a bad time were folks with a bad attitude. Enjoy life, great food and the people you are with. I had a blast getting all dolled up and going to a classy restaurant to share in a lovely time with my loved ones. And the Met was a great... no awesome place to do that. -------------
*****Some tips... use the valet, it was very convienent and not that spendy $7 which they will add to your food ticket for you. Go to Costo and buy the gift certificates for $80 and have $100.00 spending power at the Met. We don't drink, so our meal came to about $175 and that included the $7 valet. They gave me the change in another gift certificate. (Which I will definately use)**********
Oh and the bathrooms are cute and offer all the great little extras to freshen up.
Pros: Valet, Service, Cushy Booths
Cons: Expensive, Charge for birthday extra without knowledge

I am not a frequent visitor to fine-dining restaurants. But it was my boyfriend's birthday, so I decided we could splurge. He wanted a steak, and boy did we get one! We ordered the Chateau Briand (I'm not sure if I spelled that right...) and it was such a production! They set up a little table so they could carve it tableside, which would have been wonderful, had three, count 'em, three people not come by and fussed with it, each one saying something negative, like "Who set this up? Let me do it RIGHT." I understand striving for perfection, but seriously. Does the order of the knives matter that much?
Then a man came who carved the steaks, a show in itself, and serve us. He asked if we wanted sauce, I said no, and I requested the platter with the rarer portions. He sauced the more well-done cut, and was about to hand the rare plate to me when our waitress came up. She said "No! That's supposed to be for her. Why didn't you sauce both? Blah blah blah." She told off her assistant for doing what we asked! And she was very rude. It was embarassing for me, and for him. Finally I just said. "Fine. Sauce both. It doesn't matter." They eventually got a plate in front of each of us. I had almost taken a bite, and then the manager has to come up as well, expressing concern, asking whether he should take my plate back to the kitchen and remove the sauce. Criminy folks! Can we eat dinner in peace? And please, the staff should not be scolding one another at our table. It's rude.
The bad vibes ruined our meal. We didn't want dessert, and left quickly.
One more thing. The ladies bathroom was filthy. I understand that steakhouses are geared towards the fellas, but really. I had to peek into two stalls before I found one that I was okay with using.

The Met is known for their steaks and for good reason - they're big, grilled to perfection and very tasty! They also grill up a mean fillet of salmon. (I'm not a big steak eater, but my husband is - so when we find a place that does both steak and seafood well, we're happy!)
All that said - I do think the prices at the Met are a bit over the top. You can get a meal just as good and for half the price over in West Seattle at Jak's! But if you're in downtown Seattle and in need of a splurge, the Met may just fit the bill!
