Four of us women flew up to Seattle for a little get-away. I was told the best place to eat in town was the Metropolitan Grill. We had the absolute best service, best entree, best desserts, best drinks ever! The filet mignon was to die for - the halibut was delicious and the copper river salmon was absolutely exquisite! We decided if we ever visit Seattle again we will definitely want a repeat of this scrumptious meal! Our waiter divided our steak and fish right near our table and we all ordered our side dishes so each of us could serve ourselves. We had scalloped potatoes, twice baked potatoes, creamed spinach and marinated mushrooms and salads of course. Each dish was done perfectly. Then, we shared desserts. Magnificent experience! I highly recommend this restaurant.

My boyfriend and I splurged for a "fancy" dinner. He loves steak, so we to the Met. Our waiter was decent and my prosciutto salad was tasty... until 3 hours later when I was hugging the toilet and wishing ate elsewhere. It is very humiliating the once in a blue moon you buy an expensive dinner, you end up getting sick and sleeping on the bathroom floor all night.
I work in the food service so I'm not very picky. During dinner I was charmed by the predictable ambiance made of green velvet, gold railings and a valet service. And I didn't mind the silly looking guy in a tuxedo lurking around talking up a $20 bottle of wine for $75. Or that we ordered makers mark and got bakers for $20 more. When I got home and was feeling sick, all those memories became suspect. My god, PLEASE throw it out if it's past date!! I am very disappointed in this place that specializes in meats AND that serves it with a very high price tag (you'd think they could afford to throw it out!). I have no idea how they maintain a good reputation. There are TONS of fantastic restaurants in Seattle, but don't let the allure Metropolitan fool you.
And when I called to let them know about my "experience" they were much less than sincere, and apologized only because they had to. I'll pick vegetarian place next time. Or anywhere else and be much richer for it.

This restaurant is a bit over blown, the last two times that I have been there I have had very average service from my server. I have seen servers at Dennys who were more interested in providing a good experience. Some of the problems for the evening included being out of the Rib eye steak, and the substituted piece of meat was filled with gristle, 7 people being crammed into a circular booth that was way to small, one of our group wanted chicken but was shamed into getting a steak with the snotty "you are in the 3 rd best STEAK house in the U.S." comment. The drinks came sloooooowwwww and if it wasn't for the amazing wine steward (Joe) we might have never been refilled.
The up side.... The twice baked potato was AMAZING. The afore mentioned Joe made our evening, he really turned what was shaping up to being a mediocre experience into a really fun evening, good save Joe.
Here's the thing, I don't go to places like The Met for an amazing steak, I go for the experience. When I have a server who is "doing their job" and even at that not very well. The quality of the food doesn't ever make up for the missing "wow" factor I am looking for. There are too many places to eat in this city for a place like The Met to ever be just average and expect return business.
Mr. Joe gave us that experience so we learned the lesson, Mon-Tues only and ask to sit in Joe's section then The Met will live up to the hype. I am sure there are other great servers in there, I don't want to chance it next time.

We were expecting a great meal after going to places like Daniel's Steakhouse, Morton's, the Space Needle, and other exceptional places around the country, but were extremely disappointed. Everything was over salted, the meat was exceptionally tough, cooked to perfection but very tough. Usually it's easy to find something to enjoy when at fine restaurants, but this was the first time it was nearly impossible to. The waitress was rather rude. She rolled her eyes when we politely turned down dessert. I'd highly suggest taking your money to Daniel's Steakhouse.

My girlfriend and I moved to Seattle about a year and a half ago and we have had the luxury of experiencing for the first time all of the amazing eateries that the Emerald City has to offer. The one type of restaurant we hadn't found in our first year perusing the city was a great steakhouse. Needless to say, we were eventually pointed in the direction of the Metropolitan Grill.
After arriving on time, we sat for about 20 minutes before meeting our big, goofy, and pretentious waiter named Bruno, and being shown to our table. I tried to put myself in the position of a waiter and imagined that working at "The Met" is probably like making the NFL if you are a football player, at least in Seattle. Perhaps it was because my girlfriend and I are quite young (28 years of age) or perhaps because it was late at night, but we received extremely poor service -- certainly no interest in the waiter's part on earning 15-20% gratuity on a $200 meal. I was still chewing on my last bite of steak when the burly curmudgeon suddenly appeared and whisked my plate away from under me.
I ordered the New York strip and my girlfriend, the Filet. The cuts of meat were very average, and the filet was particularly bland. On the cost/benefit scale, the quality of food would have been worthwhile at the $15 price point, not $60-70.
We both left the restaurant wondering what all of the fuss was about and concluding that next time we'll just visit Outback where we could have similar quality steaks, have respectable service, and save about $150. I suppose I should have said something about the waiter taking my plate away before I was finished but I just wasn't in the mood for confrontation. Besides, its much more rewarding to write a comprehensive review online from the comfort of my couch.
On a positive note, we enjoyed a fine Chilean Malbec, but then "The Met" had very little to do in the creation of the bottle.
Pros: nice wine selection, Joe Torre went there once

My husband and I had made reservations for 8:30 PM last night, August 10, 2007, to celebrate the successful launch of my new business. We wanted an earlier reservation, but were told our choices were 5-something pm or 8:30 PM. I chose 8:30.
We arrived at 8:20 PM and were told it would be a 15 minute wait beyond our reservation. We said that would be OK. 8:30, 8:45 came, 8:55, 9:00, 9:10, and we were still not seated. We were waiting with the crowd in the lobby and I observed the blatent slipping of cash to the greeter and people being seated out of turn.
The names below us on the list continued to be seated ahead of us. My husband was ready to leave, and I should have let him. I asked the greeter when we might be seated, as our reservation had been for 8:30 PM. He told us we were third next in line. The entire lobby emptied. There was one couple left with us, and they were visitors from out of town, and IRATE at the wait. They were told they were fourth in line. (We were still third.) The irate couple was seated, and we remained, alone in the lobby. Again, hubby wanted to leave. By the way, we were dressed nicely and it's not like our hygiene lacked or anything--it was purely the fact that we didn't slip them a wad of bills to seat us.
Anyway, at 9:20pm, they seated us. Now to the food. The service from this point on was good, the food was not. I ordered a blueberry mojito and it was so bad I couldn't drink it. I don't know what they did to it. Our steaks were not cooked as ordered. Hubby ordered well done. That means, according to their menu, just a little pink in the center. The meat was red throughout. They brought our coffee condiments to the table, including the fabulous chocolate coated candy stirrers. BUT, they only brought one. For the two of us. How utterly cheap!!!!
