For those who say the service is slow, maybe it is. I've never noticed because I'm there relaxing with family and friends. Don't you know everything slows down in Hawaii? When I lived there, we called it "Aloha time." Stop by, take a load off and relax, Hawaiian style.
Pros: Authentic, Home-like feel, great food, great people
Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Kona has been a standard for me and my friends ever since they opened about 7 years ago. I like the super casual (but not slack) environment, I can go there anytime and know that the food will always be good and the staff will be friendly. I have had breakfast many times, the kona coffee is great, and they do great classic american breakfasts as well as Hawaiian style dishes...always good. Their dinners are great too, I almost always order Kalhua Pig and Cabbage...yum! I have an affinity to this place, I hope they stay around for years to come!
Pros: comfortable, food is consistent and good
Cons: HMMM?

I went here for lunch. It wasn't crowded at all. We got a seat immediately. It was a bit of await, but I forgive the waitress for she seemed like she was all alone. While we were waiting we noticed all the movie memorablia in the walls. It was really cool to see a autographed picture of Mr. Miyagi on the wall. The wait for the food was worth it. I had Kalua Pork drenced with juice which comes with macaroni salad and rice. My cousin had a combo plate with teriyaki beef, mac salad, rice, spring rolls, and pork katsu. They even have spam masubi. Boy, this place took us back. It was fairly affordable too. The space is large so you can bring large families. They even have breakfast.
Pros: Great Menu, Breakfast, Affordable, Friendly
Cons: Kitchy, Service not fast, but worth the wait.

I wanted to spend my 22nd birthday (including 40 people) in a cozy, family-feel place. Kona Kitchen popped in mind because they have suuuppper gooood food & the atmosphere is so comfortable. They were sooo accomadating, food came out fast & good and the best part was that it was cheap! It was the perfect way to spend my birthday and with friends. Afterwards we had some drinks at the bar before we headed out and let's just say that Angie can 'pour' some drinks. ;D Will always love this place and is a perfect spot to just grab lunch or for any occasion.
Pros: Great food!
Cons: Nothing.

This place does have a core group of customers that continue to support this establishment. I'd say one of their biggest fans has to be the Seattle Police dept. because everytime I eat there, there is always 2 or 3 uniformed officers there. I mysef frequent this restaurant about 3 times a month and I live in Pierce County.
Back to the food - the Loco-Moco, Kalua Pig and BBQ chicken are very good and they don't short you on the amount served. The first time I had their BBQ chicken, I expected a typical portion of sliced breast meat, but instead I got "two hind-quarters," that's 2 drumsticks and 2 thighs.
But, the highlight for me is - when you have a hankering for, or simply want to "discover" Lau-Lau, make it a point to eat there on Sunday, after 11:00 AM. Their Lau-Lau is Ono!
Pros: The food
Cons: Service can be slow

i'm originally from hawaii and when i moved up here a few years ago, finding a place to eat that reminded me of home was tough. and then i discovered kona kitchen and i've been going there ever since. yes, the service can be slow at times but it's definitely about enjoying the food and enjoying the people you're with. it's truly a place to just hang out and relax after a long day and the food is absolutely worth the wait. so if you're not in a huge rush, love good homestyle cooking and appreciate a little small town feel, this is a great place to go.
