If Ruth Chris' is anything like Jak's, I don't need to go. Jak's has a very reasonably priced menu for a seriously good steak dinner. The mashed potatoes were very delish and the steak was juicy, well seasoned, and cooked just right.
One critcism is that it can get VERY VERY loud. We were seated next to some rowdy drunks and the hardwood floors (though nice for decor) did nothing to mute them. We got reseated across the restaurant and still got an earful.

We really like Jak's, as a great place to go for reliably good food at reasonable prices.

We have good friends in West Seattle and when we can sneak out alone, without the kids, we usually meet them here at Jak's. Since they don't take reservations, the wait can be *very* long on a weekend - but trust me, it's worth it. If you can find a spot at the bar, hang out there and have a couple drinks before dinner - they make a great cosmo!
They do specialize in steak, but there are other choices, for those us us who are not big beef people. I have had the salmon and the spicy prawns and both are fantastic - as good or better than the restaurants that specialize in seafood.
The service is impeccable - attentive without being obnoxious. I really can't say anything bad about Jak's.

I went here recently and almost left when I got a glimpse of the menu. It seemed largely focused on beef (which I don't eat). The place seemed VERY busy and so I decided to wait it out and see what all of the fuss was about.
I was kind of a struggle to find find something non-beef as there were only a handfull of other choices.
I ended up going with the Salmon and was very happy that I hung around. The food was great, the staff was nice. The restaurant was quite nice inside (which youd never know by the outside). Its also quite spacious.
I'll would defintely return when I have a pack of carnivores to please.

the place feels like a steakhouse - it's dim, dark booths, etc. they have a full bar and make a nice drink. but the whole reason to go there is the food! the salad will come so fast that you'll think they are serving it to the wrong table, and your entree with the sides will come before you're finished with the salad. the beef is perfectly seasoned and cooked and the sides are great too. (last time i waent the potato was the size of my arm!).
they are nice, friendly people who just seem to not want to charge $45+ for prime beef.
the only downside is that they don't take reservations so if you have a large party or go on a busy night, prepare to wait.

This is a steak house where you can expect steak that is one of a kind, without the outragous prices. They serve only the finest steaks and also have many alternatives for people who are looking for more than just beef. The location is nice (in the University area) and you don't have to leave a dent in your wallet!

Jak's steak house in West Seattle not only has amazing steaks, but also one of the best burgers around. The quality of meat is what sets this burger apart from the rest. The meat is tender, juicy and. It comes with the usual toppings and accompaniments. The price is not bad either. I highly.

Jak's Grill specializes in steaks and incredible seafood, and they do it well. The decor is dark, with dark wood booths and dim lighting, so it feels cozy and warm, but it's the food that we keep returning for. Their portions are so generous that they don't offer appetizers (they would ruin the meal!), although every meal comes with a basket of hot bread and a side salad. The petit filet mignon is a steal at about $26 - it's luscious and perfectly cooked every time, with melt-in-your-mouth tenderness...and though it may be called petit even my meat-eating husband wouldn't want a larger portion. (If you do, they offer a bigger one, but I've never seen anyone order it!) Their seafood dishes are inventive and perfectly cooked - my friends and I are still raving about the grilled ahi tuna with a wasabi-ginger beurre blanc that was to die for. This is a great place to meet friends, hang out, and enjoy wonderful food...all in the neighborhood.
