Went to Machiavelli Ristorante in Capitol Hill for the first time and will not be going back. The caesar salad was saturated with dressing and the dressing had way too much anchovy flavor to it. I got the fettuccine bolognese and couldn't eat it because it had too much garlic (i.e. I could see little garlic pieces in the sauce). While the menu items are cheap (~$9-10 for pasta), if you add a salad and a drink it adds up pretty quickly for not being good. The wait staff is very nice, though.

A great little Italian spot. Go early unless you want to hang out in the tiny bar for drinks, which is not a bad time but your bill will add up quickly.
With many entrées around a ten-spot, you can get in and out at a decent price if you don't add too many tasty appetizers, salads, or drinks.
The simple green salad with gorgonzola is tasty, as is the tuna carpaccio (sp?). The gnocci is delicious, as is the penne, or the roast chicken. If you feel starved for a little green stuff, ask the server if you can get a side of the veggies that come with the chicken entrée. It must be all stock and butter and garlic to taste so good, but at least you are getting your vitamins.
The servers here are real career waiters, they know their stuff and they are good in a not too friendly/not too aloof kinda way.

Probably the greatest italain food ive ever had. the prawn linguini is truly amazing, but everything they make is great. They'll make anything just the way you want it, which is great for me since they will make anything spicy. Of course they can reccomend a great bottle of wine to go with your meal. There is now parking or reservations so you have to come early and find a spot on cap hill, which is hard but totally worth it. you can always eat some bread with their homemade tapenade while you wait in the bar. dont miss this one

Machiavelli is always packed and, no wonder, the food is outstanding. I love the chicken milanese which is pounded thinly, breaded lightly and full of lemon and butter. the restaurant has 10-15 tables and an adjacent bar that overflows with patrons waiting for a table. everything i've had there is excellent and definitely save room for dessert.
