A friend recomended that we try Brouwer's. And so began our adventure! I say this because we attempted to eat here three times! Unfortunately, they have abosolutely not concept of how to manage tables......In fact the third time (which was apparently the charm) was marred by this poblem even though we arrived far too early to really enjoy the evening. When my wife and I left our table, two groups nearly traded punches over our abondoned table. The space is open and interesting, but the free-for-all table method is simply ridiculous! With that aside, the food was truly excellent, but perhaps on the heavy side. I had the bison stew which was tender and rich which an earthy flavor I really enjoyed. My wife had the chicken which was well executed, moist with crisp skin. The cheese plate was nice but could have used more selection of breads. However the honey was a pleasant surprise compliment to the cheese. But this is a gastro pub and that should be expected. Further, the beer menu, even for a beer lover is daunting to say the least. The staff was slow, preoccupied AND rude when asked simple questions regarding some beers.....The beer menu is to die for, but at what cost? I would come back if reservations were accepted and the staff was more attentive, because the food was excellent (at least for a cold winter evening) and the beer menu speaks for its self. In sum, I would not recommend this place unless you have nothing to do and you don't care waiting at the entrance and then fighting over a dirty table when sombody leaves OR arrive at 5:15 so you can get in bed at 8:30.........Up side, parking is not an issue. This was ok, service was ok too. Nice to have Wittekirk (spelling?)...I love that beer. But this was odd: we were there from about 9:30 - 11 PM and the lights were on fairly bright! It seemed strange to us. Not that we have to be in a dark depressive space, but bars are usually dark at night. Our eyes actually started to get tired from it and we left because of it.

I've been going to Brouwer's for a long time, and always love their beer selection and atmosphere, and knowledgeable staff. I spent the walk down the hill raving about the place to my two guests from the UK today, only setting up the following shock even more. After waiting more than 20 minutes while a waiter passed our closed-menu table no less than 5 times, we proceeded to the bar to order our drinks. There, the bartender took one look at my guest's EU-issued photo ID (accepted literally the world over), before tossing it back at him exclaiming "I can't accept this Danish cr**." His words. The rudeness of this comment was astonishing, let alone the irony coming from a "Belgian ale house." The comment was obviously xenophobic and offensive. To be clear, as an attorney, I can assure readers that EU-issued photo ID's are acceptable under WA State law. Further, they're accepted by every other bar we've visited in the Seattle area, and I'm assured they were accepted on my guests' three prior visits to other parts of the US. Apparently though, Brouwer's has a decidedly un-international attitude, if not policy. My days of raving about Brouwers to visitors, and taking them there to sample good beer, are over. This place should post a sign at the door - "Visitors from countries whose beer we serve are Not Welcome inside" Pros: Great beer selection, good crowd Cons: Rudest comment I've ever heard from bartender/waiter

Brouwers is by far the best place in Seattle to get a beer. They have an amazing selection (40+ taps) of truly amazing craft brews. You won't find Bud Light or PBR here. You'll find beers with an amazing range of flavors. Even if you are a Bud Light/PBR kind of person, give the bartender a chance to select some interesting beers you might like. The bartenders are very knowledgeable, and can describe nearly any beer on the list. The food is also very interesting, ranging from cheese plates and croquettes to their Mussels and Frites (which I highly recommend). There are lots of tables for 2 upstairs, so it's a good place to come even if you're alone. You can grab an upstairs table -- all of which have an electrical outlet -- and study or work while you enjoy a fine beer. They don't have Wi-Fi, though.

I've never had a bad experience here. The beer list may be expensive, but it's also extensive! The food is actually the real reason I keep going back. It's very well thought out and absolutely delicious. Everything is homemade, and in my opinion, very reasonable. Homemade sausage, sauerkraut, bread, and mustard for 9 dollars, to me, a good bargain considering the quality of the food. As far as the service, it's perfectly fine. Not overbearing, not negligent, just the way I want it. I hate when people are stumbling over each other to get my table and ask if everything is OK. Give me what I need and leave me alone, and that is what this place does. I would recommend it to anyone, and will continue to go. Pros: food, beer, ambience Cons: parking if you drive

Wow...the service at Brouwers is HORRIBLE! Not just slow, but overly rude. This tragically hip beer hole is inundated with extremley pompous employees. Their reluctance to provide you with any decent help is written all over their faces. Even with their impressive beer list, I wouldn't recommend Brouwers to anyone for the mere fact that the employees are severly stuck-up and would only ruin a would-be good time. Brouwers would be great if the terrible staff got over themselves. I'll be spending my money some place else. This one star is gratuity for the beer list alone...nothing else. Over the last year or so I've spent several hundred dollars in Brouwer's, making special trips up from Portland. The venue is impressive, as is their amazing bottle and draft selection. For someone who spends most of their time brewing, reading about brewing or drinking good beer this place should be a mecca, and for a while it was. The trouble is the service is terrible, I don't just mean slow or sometimes they forget your drink. I mean just plain rude sometimes. More than that the biggest problem for me is that the bar staff just don't respect the product enough to serve it correctly. They serve some of shortest (i.e. half full) pints I've ever seen and I've been drinking in pubs since I was 14. I asked the server to top up a very short pint, say a 14oz pour on 20oz pint and was told very emphatically that it was policy to never top up pints. I was furious and asked if she thought that was acceptable, she just walked off. When I asked to speak to the manager she walked off with my pint and talked to him and came back with maybe another ounce or two in the glass, and said he agreed to top it up. Over the next hour or so, I saw numerous pint glasses going out some of them barely filled over half way, the rest being beer foam. It would seem Brouwer's are actively trying to defraud customers of beer they have payed for, especially if they have a policy of not topping up short drinks. Go to the Stumbling Monk, the Tap House Grill, Hales, or anywhere else. The experience was horrible! My 10 girlfriends and I were treated as if we were bimbos who didn't know anything about beer and shouldn't be dealt with. After the waitress was unhelpful, we asked the bar manager to see what he could do to make the experience better. The response we got was "you are like any other paying customer, so there is nothing special about you". The manager continued to rant about how his whole week has been horrible and didn't want to deal with us. Fine, we left and we will not come back. Cons: Horrible Service, Not Customer Friendly
