We stumbled upon the 14 Carrot Cafe accidentally, looking for something different from the normal breakfast places. Its not knock your socks off breakfast, just a good average down home place. The oat hotcakes were excellent. When I go back I would stick the pancakes, which were whole wheat based with a nice spiciness to them. Plus, they are HUGE. I ordered the Mediterranean scramble, which had some promising qualities to it, but lacked in other departments. The hash browns were dry and a bit flavorless and my toast arrived cold/slightly burned. The actual scramble was tasty, especially the crumbled feta on top. The scramble was something that I could make at home just as easily and most likely better tasting. They serve Vita coffee a definite plus, but need to work on keeping it warmer. A couple of times they refilled my cub with luke-warm coffee. You can order espresso drinks inside, which are actually made outside by a barista. The ability to order a latte is always a plus in my book. My reason for giving 14 Carrot Cafe three stars besides the yummy pancakes is the atmosphere. We were fortunate to have window seat, which provided lots of opportunities for people watching. I liked the relaxed feeling- in my opinion thats what breakfast should be, especially on a Sunday. Don't expect super quick service or a "stressed out" wait staff. Its truly a neighborhood café- its not a place to seen, rather enjoy good conversation with family/friends and relax. I think we forget what leisurely Sunday breakfasts are all about.

14 Carrot is my favorite place to lunch in the Eastlake neighborhood. Not only do they serve breakfast all day, but they also have a really tasty chicken curry (sweet, not spicy) and good sandwhiches and salads. Service is friendly and lunches are not too crowded. The service is generally faster than local competitors.

No, the 14 Carrot isn't the fanciest breakfast/brunch place in town, but it's not the worst either. It's definitely a great place to hang out with friends and tell stories from the previous night, all while enjoying good coffee and food. I've lived in the neighborhood for over 5 years now and I can honestly say I've never been there for lunch, but I can vouch for the breakfasts. Definitely try the sun-dried tomato pesto benedict if you get a chance, and you usually can't go wrong with any of the other specials. The wait can be long on the weekends after 9 am, but they have a few chairs and a coffe cart outside to help pass the time.

I enjoy the 14 Carrot Cafe, but it's not my favorite breakfast place in Seattle. It's ALWAYS crowded, and the menu rarely changes. The food they do offer is good, and service is generally pretty quick. As long as you're not afraid of being crammed in, I'd say this is a great place to try.

14 Carrot is pretty close to my work, and I really wanted to like it, but every time I go there, I leave feeling unsatisfied. I should say that I am not a breakfast person, and that appears to be what they specialize in. I kept going back periodically because I couldn't ever remember what I didn't like, but I think I am done. I went there this weekend for lunch, and got a gyro. The price of the gyro was a little high, but not bad. When the gyro showed up, it was just the ingredients piled on a plate for me to put together. If I'm paying a little more for a gyro, I don't want to have to assemble it. The juices from the meat had soaked into the pita, and made it harder to put together. I also had an iced tea with my meal, that turned out to be $2.50. That's too much in my book. Someone else at the table got a $1.25 Coke in a can. I'm never a fan of that. "Here's a 50 cent Coke that we're going to charge you $1.25 for, and you can't have any refills". I'd be happy to pay a little more for the soda and know that I could get a refill. The staff there is very nice however.

Another little gem in the neighborhood, this is the place to come if you're looking for an old fashioned, BIG breakfast with a few updated twists. The daily special board has more regulars on it than true daily specials, but you'll usually find one or more creative breakfast interpretations bookended by meat-lovers and vegetarian options. Pancakes are notoriously good, especialy the buttermilk oat. And it's hard to go wrong with some of their fresh baked goods, although Louisa's down the street is really the place for bakery items. Part of the charm comes from the monthly rotations of local artists' creations as well as watching Terri, the owner, work the register (and the crowd) and roam the tables making everything is up to standards. 14 Carrot also does lunch, but they're definitely more known for the breakfast scene. Plan on standing outside for a bit if you come on a Sunday morning.
