Cafe Selam seems to be less well-known than it's neighboring Ethiopian restaurants, but it's not because of the taste/quality of the food! This is my favorite, a great place to get foul/ful - especially since the Harambee Cafe downtown doesn't seem to be around anymore. The service is laid-back, friendly and helpful; the food is great; there's outside seating if you want; and the Ethiopian beer and honey wine is a great accompaniment to the meal, of course. You might want to ask ahead if you like ordering 'foul' at a time other than breakfast like me - they're happy to make it at other times, but only if they have the ingredients on hand.

The first time we went we were really scared because there was NO ONE there. However, don't be deterred by the possible lack of customers (unfortunately it is become more popular), Cafe Selam is the best Ethiopian food I've ever eaten. It's freshly prepared after you order and amazing. Try the 'foul' (I think that's how it's spelled). It's a fava bean breakfast dish that I could eat daily.
