The guys who transformed Green Cat in to Local, did an excellent job, but the best thing about it is...they sold it... Now, Dinette, recently named the best of Seattle..is my favorite. The main menu items change nightly, and the past 4 times I have been, are delicious. And they definitely have the best gnocchi in town. Their small selection of cocktails are great..some changing seasonally as well. Their niche is the toasts you can get...pick 3 toppings...recommend the herb frittata..yummy white truffle oil. The atmosphere can be a hair loud, but nothing like the treacherous Tilth Restaurant...but it is very romantic and the colors make you feel cozy and that they put some thought in to the atmosphere. (they do need to fix the lights from dimming on and off just ever so slightly) Let's just say, my friend recently proposed to his girlfriend there...that's how romantic it is. I suggest give it a try, its one of the best parts of Seattle dining.

We went here for an overdue date night looking for something a little different but not ridiculously expensive. When we made our reservation it seemed like it was going to be very busy, but it didn't seem that way when we go there. We ordered some white wine by the glass, espresso, the cheese plate, the roast chicken ($18), and Lasagne Bolognese ($15). My wife prefers Riesling-type wines which some places don't carry. It looked as though their wine list had a European focus, but they were able to find something my wife liked, which was good. I asked for a coffee, but was told all they had as Americano, or espresso, which was a bit odd. No coffee? Harumph. They warned us that the roast chicken would take 35 minutes, so we ordered the 4-cheese appetizer to eat while we waited. The cheeses were from all over the place (Corsica, Iowa, et cetera) and they did a good job explaining them. They weren't my favourite and the $13 price was a bit steep considering how thinly some were sliced. The entrees were interesting and solid. My "bolognese" had 3 meats and plenty of cheese. It was tasty and filling. My wife's roast chicken included two chicken legs, and was really two meals. She didn't care, however, for the flavour of the "bread salad" which came with it.

I went to this restaurant on one of the few nights where I could get away from my one-year-old son. Since the Green Cat cafe closed, this space has had several eatery incarnations and this latest is by far the best. The dining room has a lovely warm glow to it in the evening, and the decor is minimal and charming with the noteworthy painted wooden tray collection tastefully arranged on the walls. Everything we ordered was delightful. The wine was good, too. Dessert was great. I used to go to restaurants all the time, but since having a baby that trend has been sporadic at best. Therefore my experience was probably slightly tainted, in that ANY adult dining experience would be a welcome reprieve, but I really think this place has great food and a great space in which to enjoy it. Loved it. I don't often find "romantic" to be a good description, but I will say this is a great place to go on an elegant date.

Dinette is relatively new addition to Capitol Hill. Located on Olive across from redline and a block south of Starbucks, the new eatery is a worth a visit. The menu is relatively small with only starters and small plates printed and just a handful of entrees which are written on a chalk board. Starters include salads, toasts (we tried the prosciutto) and several variations of gnocci. The butter lettuce salad was simple but delicious and the gnocci with pulled pork (I think) was a bit bland. For entrees we tried the lamb and pork tenderloin which were both good but didn't wow any of us. The wine list was priced moderately and decor was casual reminding me of a french cafe. All in all, a good addition to a neighborhood with few great eats.

We went to Dinette, a restaurant on Olive Way. The ambiance was elegant but casual. We had the walnut and fig toasts--which were yummy and more filling than I would have expected. My friend also had the chicken liver mousse, which was delicious, if you like that type of food. Our pasta was very nicely prepared. A notch above just regular pasta. The prices are a bit on the high side. But worth it.
