Finally, some interesting design in Seattle. Modern clean lines remeniscent of NYC. This place fits in Wallpaper magazine. The food matches the style and the wine list is pretty interesting. Overall a nice place to go, even if it's just the lounge. Oh, great bathrooms, they take a moment to figure out like they do at many Ian Schrager hotels.

At first, Veil seems one of those overly hip and trendy spots that is misplaced -- a round peg in the square hole that has been the lower east side of Queen Anne. I'm hopeful that it will garner enough of a following and repeat interest to stay, but it will have to work hard to find its market and get them to return time and again.
In short, its a delightful experience -- high end food and vino, beautiful presentation, and after only having been open a couple of weeks, they seemed to have most of the beginning bugs worked out. Ultimately, though, I'll make a stop in only when I have a special occasion to do so, as the cost of dining there is on par with some of the pricier options in the city.
Portions are moderately sized but sufficient, and glass pours are standard (four-and-a-half ounces). The night we went, the ambiance was one of exclusivity, and you felt like you were somewhere along Rodeo Drive. If you have the wherewithal and insist on trying all the new Seattle joints, then by all means (and I mean, "all means") go ahead.

Excited for a new dining option around the Seattle Center, I tried out the new Veil restaurant at Aloha and Taylor with my husband and 78 year-old in-laws. While I enjoyed the experience, I recommend you go for a drink and appetizers and decide whether you want to spend the money on dinner. Our dinner (without wine or dessert) was $50 per head.
While I liked the modern, clean decor, my father-in-law said he felt like he was stepping into a steam shower due to the frosted glass and of course, hanging veils. My husband described it as "very LA."
Our appetizer course was preceded by a complimentary shooter of curried carrot soup with creme fraiche - really good (they should have put that on the menu.) Our appetizers included three orders of artichoke soup and one goat cheese salad. The goat cheese salad was excellent and the artichoke soup was described as "good but nothing special."
Dinner included lamb, two orders of the seared tuna and the steak. The steak and lamb were fantastic and while my husband like the seared tuna, my mother-in-law said it did not really have a lot of flavor (that however may have been her.)
While we did not order wine, the wine list looked pretty eclectic and they seemed to be pushing signature cocktails such as "the veil."
Service was excellent and parking was easy.
Decide for yourself but be ready to spend some money.
