The recently new hot spot in Queen Anne, Veil is a great addition to the Seattle restaurant scene. It lives up to its reputation for having LA-ish style (white leather and pink lighting) but staff was unpretentious and food (though pricey) was quality. We started off in the bar which offers a small menu and many inventive drinks. I chose a champagne cocktail which had lavendar infused honey and was possibly one of the best drinks I've ever had. We moved into the dining room and chose to try the tasting menu. The chef concocted a menu on the spot for our party taking into account our food preferences and also included a wine pairing. The tasting menu option is interesting as the restaurant allows the party to select the # of courses and price with or without wine (although they'll give you strong guidelines). The best courses were the scallop with hamhock, toasted corn soup and the salty peanut butter ice cream dessert which is their signature dessert. The one dissapointing course was the lamp rump (there's a reason why it's not a popular cut). It was tough and the flavor was generally off. Veil is in the category of crush, union and a slightly more affordable mistral. If you like those places, you should give Veil a visit.
NB: While I liked the tasting menu, I would not recommend it for large groups unless everyone is ordering exactly the same thing as the kitchen was not able to accomodate a lot of substitutions.

We were pleasently suprised by how great this was. We arrived about an hour late but the service was great. The decor feels pretty LA, and the wine list is a bit weak. Their cocktails were great and interesting. When the waiter saw us order 4 appetisers and 1 entre for two people he mentioned they normaly have a tasting menu available but were low on a few things at the moment but would do our selections tasting-menu style. Everything was very good, the aspagus soup had just great flashes of flavor from perfectly cooked crunchy fresh little aspagus chunks and lox bits. They brought out an extra dish of shrimp cheviche that was amazing. I'm looking forward to going back and trying the real tasting menu experience there sometime soon.

Because Seattle is so casual, there aren't a lot of places where it's cool to be dressed up...or at least not blatantly obvious. We went here for dinner before the opera and it was fabulous. There aren't a lot of vegetarian options, which seems silly in Seattle, but the chef made a lovely meal for me without the meat and I had no problem feeling full and satisfied. There are small portions, but I think good food should be in small quantities. It's also a bit expensive, but it's a nice treat once in a while. The staff was great too. Not up in my grill (which I dislike when I am in the romance zone) or constantly filling my water glass...Dessert...YUM.

The stark white decor with pink accents is interesting but after an hour it became a little too much for me. The service was pretentious and didn't seem particulary knowledgable about the menu. My friend and I ordered several things off the menu which sounded more interesting than it actually tasted. The presentation is beautiful. If the food tasted as good as the plate looked, I would return. I did enjoy the salted peanut butter ice cream. Our bill for 2 with 1 drink each including tip was over $200. For those prices,I will return only for drinks but not for dinner.

WHAT AM I A BRIDE? NO. SO WHY WOULD I WANT TO GO TO A RESTAURANT WHERE I AM REMINDED EVERWHERE I LOOK THAT "PERFECT" COMES IN SHADES OF PINK AND WHITE?
"VEIL," WITH IT'S WEDDING LIKE DECOR AND SUCH PRETENTIOUSNESS I COULD BARELY BREATHE...WAS INDEED NOT MY FAVORITE DINING EXPEREINCE.
SURE, WHILE PRETENDING I WAS ANOREXIC AND DAINTY, I ENJOYED A UNIQUE MORSEL HERE AND THERE...AND I MEAN MORSEL. IF YOU WANT REAL PORTIONS AND LESS DRAMA, GO ELSWHERE.

The first thing that will jump out at you with this place is definitely the decor. With the pink lighting and long, white veils hanging from the ceiling, this place screams South Beach more than Seattle. Normally, that would kind of annoy me. In this case though, they consistently pull off the chic theme: dramatic food presentation, beautiful wait staff, and elegant bathrooms.
I am surprised to see that some people have actually questioned the food. The chef certainly gets creative, but I thought he pulled it off very well. My girlfriend had the venison (surprisingly difficult to find here in Seattle), and I had the seared ahi topped with a poached egg. Unorthodox, but like I said, well done. Someone else referred to the wine list as eclectic. Again, I appreciate consistency, so I like that they were creative in this area. That being said, I wasn't a big fan of the wines they offered.
What I am a fan of, however, was the peanut butter ice cream. Believe me, I was skeptical when I first heard about this concoction too. But all I can say is that the PB ice cream was absolutely amazing. You really need to try it for yourself to know what I'm talking about. The fact that this dessert is topped off with a Nutter Butter further demonstrates the attention to detail that makes this restaurant worth the steep cost.

Unfortunately the quality of the food was inconsistent - some dishes were excellent and some were very average. For the nearly $30 entree prices and the $12 glasses of wine, we expected everything to be excellent.
