We decided to dine out before going to the Asian Art Museum, so friends recommended Cafe Septieme up on Broadway on Capitol Hill. We were happy. We found parking nearby for $5 (which seemed awfully pricy) and were an easy walk to the Cafe Septiem. The decor was fun, walls painted jaunty red with cool poster-like art showing a variety of characters -- two large headed children, a sulky viscountess, etc. Seating was comfortable with quite a few outdoors. We were happy to find Stella Artois on tap. My Septiem salad was tasty and they even made it without cheese. Our friends ate burgers and replaced the fries with salad. My husband had a good German style schnitzel with garlic mashed potatoes and everyone's favorite purple cabbage. Meal selection prices were reasonable -- under $20 with burgers and salads under $10.

We used to enjoy stopping by this intimate cafe for dessert. The tres leches (three milks) cake was very good. Unfortunately, the business owner made a poor decision when he fired his manager. The Stranger wrote multiple stories about the owner of Septieme, who is an immigrant yet denied his employees the opportunity to march for immigrant rights. In fact, he fired the manager of the cafe after the manager allowed the employees to leave work to march. Very poor politics for a cafe on Capitol Hill! You don't know your customers very well. I will never visit this restaurant again (unless there's a new owner).

When you go, have a slice of the Death By Chocolate for me. :)

After a heavy meal we stopped in for some tea and were pleasantly surprised. The ambience was nice. The bar area was dark but just dark enough and the music was at a perfect volume for conversing. The service was fast and although we didn’t eat, the food looked delicious. The bathroom was clean enough and the only complaint I can think is that from the bar you had a perfect view of the dishwasher doing his duty. Not so sure on the prices but I would definitely return to have a meal.
