My friend and i wanted to try this place since we like asian restaurants and we were in the neighborhood, and this one was the Worst! The interior is very old and dusty, it needs a spring cleaning and just that was a big turn off.
I ordered 'broccoli + beef'. The broccoli looked half yellow, which of course wasn't attactive. Then I raised one up to my nose and it smelled like it was freezer burnt or old. I wasn't about to eat it. The beef was grisly/chewy. i had a few bites of that. The sweet and sour soup was just fine and i ate that up. The waitress seemed to run quickly by us, and asked other people how they're food was, but never asked us as our full plates sat there barely touched. My friend got a seafood dish and after a few bites said that this food had msg in it. I didn't think much about that.
We decided to take to food with us to throw away because we just didn't trust that it wouldn't be re-served to some other person. Later on that night, i started getting very thristy, and peed like crazy, and my friend told me that was the msg, draining your body of all liquids. The next day, i felt weird and had a headache, that took until the afternoon to go away. I've had food with msg before, but this was ridiculous.
My friend and I would NEVER go to this restaurant again.
Cons: Broccoli and beef msg food that wasn't fresh

Recently (Mar 2006) they had trouble with the King County Public Health. 130 violations, include many red line violation, so be careful out there! Most restaurants get violations, but come on, 130?
Try Szechuan Bistro on 85th St N, just west of Greenwood. I love their eggplant, and spicy handshaven noodles.
Pros: easy to park
Cons: can't see inside till you go in, unhealthy, bacteria

My wife and I recently moved to Seattle and were looking for restaurants in the Phinney area that aren't too pricey. You get the impression that the owners know the families who frequent the restaurant well. Service was quick and very friendly, and the food was lovely. We had Kung Pao Tofu, Green Jade (broccoli, green beans and pea pods) and Sweet and Sour Prawns. The Kung Pao was perfect, not undercooked nor burned, and plenty spicy. The vegetables were cooked just right, and the Sweet and Sour Prawns were just as you'd expect.
The most expensive item we had was less than $7.
We've already been back - and will keep going back.

Because various fresh sauces and vegetables are used to prepare every dish, I always look forward to my visits to Greenwood Mandarin. Dishes can be requested with/out preferred ingredients. Lunch is a good option for trying various items on menu. If you like Chinese soups (like Egg Flower and Hot and Sour) - this place offers the best in Seattle. Vegi deluxe with chicken breast and vegi fried rice is superb; General Taos * 4 stars* is full of endless flavor. I love this place and every person I introduce to this restaurant usually become regulars.
